Essential electrical beauty gadgets sounds like a mouthful, but I thought it was actually a good idea to do a round-up as things are getting more and more exciting in this area. I do feature ‘electrical’ products in my regular seasonal beauty features (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter), and I will continue to add them as I try any more.
But funnily enough, I am very happy with my current selection of ‘electrical beauty gadgets’ – every single beauty product below has been tried and tested for your benefit. And mine.
Hair styling electrical devices
REVLON Pro Collection Salon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser
Costs from £55/$45 from Amazon UK, Amazon USA. Boots also stocks it.
A new version for medium and shorter hair is now available and it is fantastic.
For best results, let hair air dry for 5 minutes or so, so it isn’t dripping wet (but it still works well). As I am a tiny bit lazy, those 5 minutes allow me to style the hair much faster. Current timing is 10 minutes. Watch this short video (it is the one that made me buy it)
This is the most recent addition to my collection and the most interesting. I bought it as a last minute item on my recent trip to California as I had forgotten my normal rotating brush (see below). I then found this item on the American Amazon website and I used it throughout the 3-week trip – it really worked! It is actually a hair dryer with a non-self rotating brush – a hot air styler, in order words. This is an important point – you do the rotating work yourself. However, the results are extraordinary and I can get my hair done in 8 minutes no less. I did not resent having to wash my hair post beach or pool every day and I loved it so much, I bought the exact same one when I returned home to the UK. I mix and match with my other brushes – but this is getting over 50% of usage. And costs just £50, which is nothing.
Babyliss Diamond Big Hair Dual Replacement Brush Head – 50 and 42 mm
Costs £41 in the UK/Europe and $75 in North America
This is the classic Babyliss brush and the beauty gadget that has started it all. So if you cannot get hold of any of the others, get this one. It has a good motor, lasts a few years and you have 2 different brush attachments. It is a solid choice.
In the USA, Babyliss has recently been launched (it is a Conair owned brand) and the brush has a very fancy name ‘BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Rotating Hot Air Brush, 2 Inch‘ and only comes with one brush attachment but it is the same (except it is blue).
For your teeth
Oral-B iO6 Grey Opal Ultimate Clean Electric Toothbrush
From £100 (on sale from £300) from Boots. Various colours available. Make sure you also get some replacement heads also on sale. Amazon also dropped the price. Click here for the USA.
I have been an Oral B electric toothbrush customer for over 20 years and my hygienist told me to upgrade ASAP to this model as it fantastic. I have even using it now and it really is a step above from the previous models (it feels very light and different) and the tech is completely different. Worth the investment, namely if on sale.
I hope you find this list of electrical beauty gadgets useful – it is amazing how some devices have changed things for the better. If you try any of these, let me know – but also (more importantly), let me know which items you cannot live without.
