5 essential electrical beauty gadgets sounds like a mouthful, but I thought it was actually a good idea to do a round-up as things are getting more and more exciting in this area. I do feature ‘electrical’ products in my regular seasonal beauty features (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter), and I will continue to add them as I try any more.
But funnily enough, I am very happy with my current selection of ‘electrical beauty gadgets’ – every single beauty product below has been tried and tested for your benefit. And mine.
Hair styling electrical devices
REVLON Pro Collection Salon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser
Currently sold out in the UK/USA but keep checking. But a new version for medium and shorter hair is now available and it is fantastic.
For best results, let hair air dry for 5 minutes or so, so it isn’t dripping wet (but it still works well). As I am a tiny bit lazy, those 5 minutes allow me to style the hair much faster. Current timing is 10 minutes. Watch this short video (it is the one that made me buy it)
This is the most recent addition to my collection and the most interesting. I bought it as a last minute item on my recent trip to California as I had forgotten my normal rotating brush (see below). I then found this item on the American Amazon website and I used it throughout the 3-week trip – it really worked! It is actually a hair dryer with a non-self rotating brush – a hot air styler, in order words. This is an important point – you do the rotating work yourself. However, the results are extraordinary and I can get my hair done in 8 minutes no less. I did not resent having to wash my hair post beach or pool every day and I loved it so much, I bought the exact same one when I returned home to the UK. I mix and match with my other brushes – but this is getting over 50% of usage. And costs just £50, which is nothing. There is a paddle brush model which I bought but returned. Make sure it looks like this. European readers, I think you really need to order this from the UK and buy an adaptor.
BaByliss Sheer Volume Rotating Heated Brush
Costs £39.99 (on sale) in the UK/Europe
This is my absolute favourite brush as it smooths out hair in a way that others do not and leaves it really silky. But it rotates quite slowly (be patient as the magic happens) and I feel like I am breaking the motor half the time. It has been going for over a year and you need to have dried hair for this brush, so I use it when I am not in a rush and air dry my hair (if not, I use the Revlon brush above, as my goal is really to keep it under 10 minutes). It really gives body and volume to the hair and curls the ends quite nicely. I get lots of compliments when I use it.
Currently 50% off in the UK. This model is not available in North America, sorry.
Babyliss Diamond Big Hair Dual Replacement Brush Head – 50 and 42 mm
This is the classic Babyliss brush and the beauty gadget that has started it all. So if you cannot get hold of any of the others, get this one. It has a good motor, lasts a few years and you have 2 different brush attachments. It is a solid choice.
In the USA, Babyliss has recently been launched (it is a Conair owned brand) and the brush has a very fancy name ‘BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Rotating Hot Air Brush, 2 Inch‘ and only comes with one brush attachment but it is the same (except it is blue).
If you are looking for a curling hair tool, the only one I can recommend is also from Babyliss – you can get it here in Europe (£80) and here in North America ($129).
For your teeth
Oral B Genius 9000 toothbrush with USB charging and travel case
From £89.99 (on sale as I bought mine for £199) from Amazon UK/Europe, and $179 (- a $40 coupon) from Amazon in North America.
I have been an Oral B electric toothbrush customer for over 20 years and delighted with its latest model (I upgraded from the 7000). This new version comes with a mirror mount, bluetooth connection and an app – but you can totally brush your teeth without all the tech, I like the USB charging which really is handy for travelling. If you get a dual version, you get a really good deal (so mine is rose gold and Mr. O’s is black).
The 2 person kit is available in the UK for £179.99.
For your face (and other bits)
Clarisonic Smart Profile Brush
It took me a few years to upgrade to Clarisonic, the ultimate beauty gadget – or *the face brush* as I thought it was quite pricey and I personally wasn’t sure I would actually use it. But after 2 years with the trusty Clinique Sonic Brush (which is an excellent starter brush and I have no problems recommending it), I decided to really upgrade and go for the Clarisonic Smart Profile. There are LOADS of kits available and it is finally available in the UK (and Europe, by definition). Up until recently, only its Mia 2 brush was widely available – so some progress here for sure.
My version has the foot file (which is AMAZING) and the body polish brush too (I have not used) but I can vouch for the face brush 100%. It is an investment but your skin will thank you later.
It has a USB charger and it lasts over 2 weeks.
I hope you find this list of electrical beauty gadgets useful – it is amazing how some devices have changed things for the better. If you try any of these, let me know – but also (more importantly), let me know which items you cannot live without.
