Recent trips, upcoming plans and a few places I’m still thinking about.
One of the things I’m really enjoying about writing regularly again is having somewhere to share the trips that don’t necessarily need a full travel guide — as well as the places I’m thinking about going next.
So I thought I’d keep a little running list here.
These are places I’ve recently been, trips I already have coming up, and a few I’m currently planning. I’ve included where I actually stayed (or where I’m booked), other hotels I’d consider, plus links for hotels, flights and car hire if you’re planning something similar.
And, as always, I’ll update it as I go.
Barolo & Le Langhe 🇮🇹
Wonderful to return to this part of Italy — this time because of an Eros Ramazzotti concert 😆 — with a few days to enjoy the food, wine and beautiful towns of Le Langhe.

Zahara de los Atunes 🇪🇸
Home of almadraba tuna — the best in Spain. We’ve done plenty of day trips to Zahara over the years, but this summer decided to stay for a night. Next year, it will definitely be two.

Chiclana de la Frontera 🇪🇸
A summer favourite for us. Playa de La Barrosa has miles of golden sand and Atlantic waves — and is an easy escape from Sotogrande.

Sotogrande 🇪🇸
After spending summers here for years, we finally made Sotogrande home. Beaches, golf, restaurants, friends — and a very different pace of life in the south of Spain.

Ayamonte & Portuguese Border 🇪🇸🇵🇹
One of the joys of living this far south is being able to pop over to Portugal for lunch — so we turned it into a little two-country escape.

Back to an island I know reasonably well — and where I got engaged. We’ve been four or five times over the years, discovering new parts of Crete.

Cascais has become our Lisbon base. We have more space, we’re close to the sea and can easily head into Lisbon whenever we want.

We’re back in the UK roughly every quarter, usually combining London with a few days around Henley so we can see close friends and family.
Göcek 🇹🇷
We’ve been to Göcek a handful of times, but never with our daughter. I’d love to go back, so I’m watching to see how the temperatures hold into October.

Our other option for October half term. Tenerife gives us a reliable warm-weather option without travelling too far.
