Mrs. O turns 2, let’s celebrate together #MrsOBdayGiveaway

2 very happy years!

2 very happy years!

No no no, it is not a joke nor a rumour. I am not quite sure where time has gone, but Mrs. O Around the World is turning two years old this November. And what two amazing years! I am still amazed how I started a blog for my friends to read (and for my mother to know where in the world I am) and I am this short of reaching 1 million page views. I still can’t quite believe it myself.

I want to take this time to thank every single person who has dropped by and read the blog, who has interacted with me through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, and of course, those who have sent me emails. I have always said that the reason why I developed this online persona was to be truly sociable (which I would like to think I am in real life) and I have done my best to respond to every single message in (almost) time. I have also met in person many readers and supporters – and made some amazing new friends. I am truly grateful and incredibly happy.

If it wasn’t for every single person who supports the Mrs. O Around the World project, there would be no Mrs. O and I love this little community we have built over the past two years – it is not about me suggesting places to go, it is about us being together throughout each adventure and stopover. It is about you telling me where to go too – because most of us travel in a certain way and advice goes both ways.

So to say thank you properly, and as actions sometimes speak more than words, I have teamed up with some of the brands that have really believed in me (and in our community) over the past year. I went through all the blog posts and social platforms, and there were simply some places that you really loved (and so did I, who am I kidding?). And the right thing to do, is send you over to some of these places so you can enjoy and send me some photos!

Shall we start? Yes, please!

2 nights at Finca Cortesin, Andalucia, Spain

How's this for a pool with a view? Not bad

Finca Cortesin, or the most special hotel I have ever visited. And will go back forever.

Finca Cortesin, in the South of Spain, was, without a doubt, my hotel of the year. I had the perfect hotel stay with my lovely friends Trudi and Terene – and so much so, Terene couldn’t wait for us to return and immediately took her whole family back for the summer. I am lost for words – it was beautiful, the service was out of this world and the food was to die for.

The prize: two nights for two in a junior suite with breakfast included. Subject to availability and please note that blackout dates do apply. Excludes July-August 2013. To find out more about this great hotel, click here.

2 nights at Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, USA

My beautiful Executive Suite

I adored the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills and am pretty sure you will love it too…

The Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills was a very special hotel for me – for many reasons as you can guess from reading my review. It could have been the Mrs. O lychee cosmo they invented for me…

The prize: two nights for two in a superior balcony room. Subject to availability and please note that blackout dates do apply. To find out more about this great hotel, click here.

2 nights at the Westin Grand Berlin, Germany

A spacious suite

The stunning spa suite at the Westin Grand Berlin

Do you remember that shower? I have never forgotten it and counting the days until I go back – because my little taste of Berlin was not enough…

The prize: two nights for two at the Spa Suite. Subject to availability and please note that blackout dates do apply. To find out more about this great hotel, click here.

1 night at the Corinthia London, United Kingdom

The stunning lobby

Stylish? Check. Sexy? Check, that is the Corinthia London for you…

A new landmark hotel for London, in my honest opinion. Beautifully decorated, a place I almost didn’t want to leave…Find out why.

The prize: one night for two in a superior king room. Subject to availability and please note that blackout dates do apply. To find out more about this great hotel, click here.

A weekend for two at the Herdade do Vau, in Alentejo, Portugal

Yes, the pool was all mine. And the views...

Yes, the pool was all mine. And the views…

A hidden gem in Portugal – a place that did more for our souls than you can ever imagine. Understatement at its best and an opportunity to remind ourselves that life is all about the simple things. And fab wine.

The prize: two nights for two in a superior king room with breakfast included in February, March or April 2014 and subject to availability. To find out more about this great ‘gem’, click here.

A photo shoot with Flytographer

Fun or what? Photo by Flytographer.

Fun or what? Photo by Flytographer.

Flytographer has been one of my best discoveries of the year – and I love them so much, I had three shoots recently, in LisbonLos Angeles and Amsterdam. The concept is simple, you go to one of its 55+ locations around the world, and their fab photographers spend some time with you (30 mins, 1 hour or 2 hours) and capture your best moments in a non-intrusive way. Every experience has been simply brilliant and I am delighted that they keep believing in me so much.

The prize: A 30 minute photo shoot in any of Flytographer‘s 55+ locations worldwide, valid until 30th April 2014. Flytographer will post some of the photos online for promotional purposes. For more information, visit their website.

A collection of Hg2 Guides

Hg2 - certainly not your usual travel guides

Hg2 – certainly not your usual travel guides

My travel guides of choice – I will never forget my first visits to Cape Town and Marrakesh and the incredibly trendy places I found thanks to Hg2. Interestingly enough, they were the first people who challenged me to write an article, which then led to Mrs. O Around the World. In their own words, “intelligent, irreverent and inspired they are the perfect tool to help travellers really understand a city”.

The prize: a set of Almaty & Astana, Baku, Cape Town, Dubai, Istanbul, Marrakech, Miami, Rome, Sydney and Toronto printed guides. To find out more about Hg2, click here.

My family returned to Croatia this summer , where we had lived for close to 4 years. It was great to see old friends and visit favorite spots, while also discovering new favorites.

I would love any of the prizes, but a trip to Portugal is definitely high on my list!

    Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Mrs. O! Here’s to many more years of travel around the world with you – and your blog.

My favorite travel memory this year was visiting Rome and the Amalfi Coast. We had been to Italy several times before but never to these places. As much as the food and gelato was delicious, I took particular joy in the espresso macchiatos I would have each morning. They were like dessert they were so good, and try as I might searching here in the US, they just can’t replicate that caffeinated goodness. Visiting Vatican City and seeing Pope Francis in his weekly audience was also a thrill.

Which prize would I like the most – it’s so hard to choose as I am always ready to go anywhere, but I’ll pick the Herdade do Vau in Alentejo, Portugal, because I’ve never been to Portugal and that would give me reason to plan a trip there!

My best travel memory this year: I’ve been to Saaremaa, the biggest island of Estonia and got to know a cute old lady named Tiiu and her dog Timmu at the beach of Saaremaas capital Kuressaare. She brought me to the bus station next day to say goodbye and brought me presents. We’re still in contact. She’s 72 years old 😉
If I could, I would go to Andalusia, because I would love to listen to some flamenco. Or Berlin, because my best friend from Leipzig and I could meet up there-we love sauna so much!
    Cheers! JÈz

Happy 2nd Birthday Ann! Looking forward to many more!

Best Travel memory? Lets see! I was staying in the town of San Ignacio (Belize) and had gone on a caving trip for the day. With every caving trip, it has its element of danger whether it’s falling or grazing your arms and legs. So, I was thrilled to have completed the Crystal cave (Blue Hole Mountain). So, I finally came out of the cave, feeling tired (after spending 6 hours in the cave), it was getting dark and I just wanted to get to our van, so it could take us back to our hotel. My last obstacle remaining was the jungle! We had to walk for about an hour and it was very slippery due to the heavy rain season. I had the right gear on (boots) to combat the slipperiness but what happened next didn’t prepare me at all!
As we were climbing down, I slipped and fell on my bottom/back. When I did land, my ass fell down and out of all the places I could fall, my ass landed on a “tree trunk” that was sticking out of the ground (everyone reading this blog is probably laughing by now!). I was lying down on the floor for about 5-10min, in pain and wondering what happened to me? my Aussie friend (in front of me) was looking at me wondering what happened to me (but he didn’t see the tree trunk!). Now my American friend behind me wondered too as the tree trunk was still hidden from sight. When I finally moved out of the way, they saw what I landed on and they couldn’t laughing and giggling. They couldn’t do much in terms of trying to help me, apart from being in hysterics.

Morale of the story : I got raped by a tree trunk and that was my Best Travel memory!

That moment my ski legs truly returned in Austria in April this year. Five days into my first ski holiday, since breaking my neck 14 years ago and I had honestly decided I was never going to enjoy skiing again. But… a change of resort, a smoother piste and whoopee I could ski again. The fear was gone and that incredible exhilarating feeling of speeding down a picture perfect mountain side, the wind in my hair was BACK! I loved skiing again. I cannot wait to return to the slopes again in the new year!

Happy Birthday Mrs O… two years! Congratulations. So young and yet so wise.

I would love to win any of the prizes, perhaps my top one being a visit to your homeland of Portugal, though hey if I have to fly to LA, then I have to fly to LA 😉

Wonderful – and congrats!!! The best travel memory in 2013 was my first visit to the Northern sea with my best friend and family. We had a cute house and had a lot of fun staying at the sea, beach and doing our first mudflat hiking tour. Afterwards we visited friends at the Baltic sea and got to know picturesque towns such as Warnemünde.

I would like to win the trip to Berlin as thouhg I am not allowed to fly long distance (yes, I am pregnant again). So a short trip to Berlin before the baby arrives would be fantastic.

Ana, your blog and everything is very valuable and makes us dream every time! The world is beautiful!

Happy Birthday and Congratulations! My most memorable vacation moment this year was celebrating my 1st wedding anniversary in Paris and London. Because our wedding photographer lost our wedding pictures my husband hired Flytographer to capture our anniversary in Paris! It was incredible and I am so thankful for the amazing photos we now have! I never thought I would celebrate our anniversary in the Eiffel Tower. It was the most magical and romantic trip! Any prize would be amazing but I would love another session with Flytographer or the Four Seasons Beverly Hills package.

    Hi Mrs O!

First of all, congratulations on the excellent job you do in your blog and congratulations for turning 2!

My best travel memory of 2013 was going to Las Vegas and renewing my wedding vows, 10 years later!

Despite of what people may say, Vegas / Nevada isn’t just about gambling (or CSI by the way)! So many things to do!

Can’t wait for you to write a post about “The Entertainment Capital of the World”! and please tell us about the shopping too!!!!

I’ve had some amazing travel experiences this year, but I think my Portugal trip with Boyfriend is at number 1.
That trip was a test for me as it was the first time I really worked together with different travel partners as a travel blogger.
At the same time it was really a trip we’d needed as a couple. Not that we’d grown a part, but we’re both so busy that sometimes we have to be careful not to start living next to each other. Portugal was THE place for some quality couple time.

I’m wondering if a 2-night stay in Berlin might have the same effect?:)

    Hi Mrs O!!
I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now and I love it!!

My best travel memory of 2013 was when I took a road trip along the California coast from San Francisco to San Diego, it was amazing!!

I would love to go to Finca Cortesin in Spain!

On that note, my best travel moment of 2013 was just a few weeks ago. Headed to NYC for a week with 9 women for my cousin’s 30th Birthday. What an amazing week of sight-seeing, shopping and shenanigans!

I would love to win either the trip to Los Angeles or the Flytogropher photo shoot!

My best travel memory from 2013 was spending two weeks around Lake Constance in July, with my beloved wife. It was just like another honeymoon.
And we would love to have another honeymoon at the Finca Cortesin!

    Happy 2 year anniversary!

My favorite travel memory from this year has to be watching the San Diego Padres win their game while eating a foot long hot dog and drinking a Blue Moon – All American Girl! This is closely followed by a tour around Lake Como on a private launch boat, watching the sunset over the mountains.

I’d most like to win the Berlin trip as I’d love to take my boyfriend there as a suprise for his birthday! Neither of us have been and it’s on our wish list!!

    Thank you!x

Hi Mrs O, firstly a huge congratulations on turning 2!

As one of the lucky readers who has actually had the chance to meet you along the way, I can confirm that you are most definitely a sociable person!

One of my favourite travel memories from 2013 turned out to be right on my doorstep. Somehow, my brother managed to persuade me to pack a backpack full of baked beans, cereal bars and cans of cider and pitch a tent in the middle of a muddy field for a long weekend of music and mayhem – Glastonbury Festival of course! Having lived just 20 minutes away from the festival for practically my whole life, I’d always thought of it as a time of year when tourists invade and cover our fields with litter. How wrong I was! It turns out, I’ve been seriously missing out. And so have my parents – who joined us in a beaten up VW camper van for the weekend! If you’ve never been to Glastonbury, you simply haven’t lived. And the best thing about it, I didn’t have to bottle my cosmetics or go through airport security…

But of course, I would be more than happy to hop on a plane if I was the lucky winner of ANY of these fab prizes – who could say no to two nights in Finca Cortesin or Herdade do Vau?

Keep doing what you’re doing Mrs O, you do it very well. x

My favourite travel memory of 2013, is going on holiday to St Lucia with my boyfriend after he’d been away for seven months on tour with the army. We stayed at the beautiful Ti Kaye, near Anse Le Raye. One of the nights we were there we went to Friday Fish Fry in Anse Le Raye – so much fun, a lot of St Lucian fresh fish was eaten and Rum Spice (lethal!) was drunk with new friends from around the world!

What would I like to win? A stay at Four Seasons LA would be incredible!

    Thanks! x

    A very happy 2nd birthday!

My favourite travel memory from 2013 is exploring the unique undiscovered city of Baku in Azerbaijan. I love visiting places that no one has heard of… none of my friends knew what or where Azerbaijan or Baku were! The food, culture and architecture were amazing.

All of these competition destinations look amazing, I guess my favourite would be the Four Seasons in LA as I have never been to Los Angeles before!

Wow! What an amazing giveaway! I’m already subscribed to your emails and I made sure to share this on my facebook page. 🙂

My favorite travel memory from this past year would definitely be visiting Savannah, Georgia with my husband for our 5 year anniversary. We just stayed for 3 days but everything was perfect from beginning to end! We used Airbnb and booked a the cutest little apartment! It was tiny but everything was so luxurious! I may have had beignets for two of our three breakfasts because they were just that good!

The prize I want to win the most is the Corinthia Hotel London stay! I would die of happiness if I won! My husband and I are visiting London in April/May and a stay at this hotel would make our trip even more memorable.

Happy 2nd blogiversary and here’s to many more!

    Muitos parabéns, Mrs. O!

I have moved three years ago from Italy to Maine in the United States,
and live my life here (with husband, three kids and a dog) as the trip of
my lifetime. Maine with its 5 seasons (including mud season in March-April) is Vacationland, as it is written on our car plates.
We haven’t been traveling too much in the US though, as we still fly often to Italy to visit family. Nevertheless we were still able to make trips on the two coasts: around New Hampshire, Maine and Boston and a longer trip to LA, Huntington Beach and Malibu (I love the ocean).
My favorite voyage in 2013 was a my trip to Knoxville, TN, to attend Mark Schaefer’s Social Slam. It wanted it as a gift for my MBA this year, and I really enjoyed it.
I will be in Rome again very soon, and in the new year I hope I can make to a warm and sunny destination (because Winters in Maine are long!!).

Westinn Grand Berlin would be my choice, the perfect stay for a girls weekend with my German BFF.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

Easily my best memory was climbing Volcano Cotopaxi in Ecuador. Despite struggling with the thin air and trudging our way up, the effort was completely worth it when you stop, turn around and see Ecuador sprawling below. Truly a breathtaking, surreal moment. The hg2 guides would be my choice of prize. A guide that’s different from the generic ones with secret spots would be a great addition to any trip.

My favorite travel memory this year was going to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with thirty-five outstanding public school teachers from the US. It was an unforgettable journey and I feel entirely privileged to have shared it with them–visiting schools in Brazil, watching the finals of the Confederation Cup in the local bar, witnessing the mass riots taking place in the cities, dancing samba in one of the “best clubs in the world” (Rio Scenarium), and learning more about the world through their eyes are just some of the highlights of that travel experience.

I would most look forward to staying in Alentejo, Portugal. While I spent a good bit of time this year studying up on Brazilian Portuguese, I realize it won’t go far in Portugal. But it doesn’t mean I am not stoked to try to see what I can understand and explore a country with deep ties to Brazil. I also wouldn’t mind some alone time sampling port wine with my beau 😉

Most memorable travel moment of 2013 has got to be our wonderful trip to Dubai in May.
We stayed at the beautiful Jumeirah Beach Hotel which had changed slightly since the last time I was there in 1992 and was then the Chicago Beach Hotel! Lying in the most comfortable bed I have ever
slept in, using my remote control drape button on my bed side table to open
the curtains on a gloriously sunny day to see the Burj al Arab in all it’s
glory set against the crystal clear waters of the Arabian gulf. A total WOW moment!

I’d live to visit Berlin, it’s on my bucket list so a trip to the Westin would be just fine!!

Favorite 2013 travle moments? Our 23 day North Sea/ Fjords/ British Isles adventure. We spent some lovely days on the Danish Isle of Ærö, time in Copenhagen , a 12 day cruise of the fjords , stops in Scotland and Ireland and then 4 days in Amsterdam. We had gorgeous weather , fantastic food and great company.

We are off to New Orleans next week …should be a fantastic way to spend the last month in 2013.

All of the prize locations look wonderful. I would have to choose the Finca Cortesin , as I haven’t really explored Spain ( just Barcelona).

Happy birthday , love your blog!

Wow – what a lot of responses. A good travel year for a LOT of people it seems…!

My own best travel memory? Discovering what’s on my doorstep, with a series of London-themed days. My husband and I used the Lonely Planet guides and London specialist blogs as inspiration for a series of regional discovery days.

From the most popular museums of South Ken to the lesser known Old Operating Theatre Museum in Southwark; from the newest speakeasy bars in east London, to traditional old timers’ drinking holes in the west, and from the Royal Parks to patches of green in the suburbs…London seems to answer the call for every traveller’s whim.

I feel very lucky to live here. And the prize I”d like to win the most? Finca Cortesin without a doubt!

For me, this year was about Colombia. Beautiful people, beautiful country and beautiful food! An unforgettable trip… I am still thinking about how and when I will return… That leads me to the prize that appeals to me the most and that in Finca Cortesin for the same reasons as Colombia actually!
Happy Birthday Mrs O! Here is to many many many successful and happy years to come!

Congratulations on turning two years old! Btw, looking fab with such an age!

    Ok, here we go:

Best travel memory in 2013? Although it’s obviously not over yet and it might be to come, I’d say the trip that took me 17 days through Mexico last May. 6 different states, tons of amazing sights and a handful of stunning hotels after; I am in love with the country and the people and can’t wait to come back ASAP!

What we’d love to win? The stay in the Westin Berlin! A truly fascinating design hotel in the coolest city ever 🙂 What’s not to love? Take us there please! And, should it be taken, we have to say that any of the other prizes sounds great to us too!

    Here’s to another two years!

This past year we travelled to CHINA. Yes.. 3 amazing weeks touring with a group of strangers who we now call friends. Truly a remarkable holiday. We began in Beijing and ended our last 3 nights in Macau and Hong Kong. Wow… seeing the sites of Macau truly warmed my Portuguese Heart! and Pasteis de Belem, you have COMPETITION THERE!!!! We spent hours just walking the Venetian Casino which is 3 TIMES LARGER THAN VEGAS! We travelled through so many cities, flew five flights within China, they truly know how to take care of their passengers! Climbing the Great Wall of China, seeing the Forbidden City and Imperial Gardens truly warmed my heart. A piece of me is still there.

However, for me Herdade de Vau would be on my wish list! Portugal will always have my heart! Thank you Mrs. O for the opportunity.

Ana, firstly a huge pat on the back for making such huge waves in the luxury travel world over the past 730 days of being Mrs O. Quite some feat.

Two favourite travel memories of the year. One took place right across the road from Triptease Towers at the Haymarket Hotel. After months of blood, sweat but not too many tears, we launched Triptease back in March. The reward came in the form of a stay at the Haymarket on the night of the launch. My first taste of officially becoming part of the travel world. My other favourite memory was the realisation of a lifetime’s dream. I finally got the chance to soak up the glitz and glamour of the Monaco Grand Prix. It lived up to twenty five years worth of self-cultivated hype.

Which of Mrs O’s prizes would I most like to snag? The stay at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills. Reason being that I recently befriended super blogger JetSetExtra and promised I’d pay her a visit over in Los Angeles. I wouldn’t want to impose on her abode, so the Four Seasons really is the only option…

Wow! Great contest and congratulations on your two-year celebration!

As far as my best travel memory of the year, I’d have to say that Jerusalem has really stayed with me since I visited in March. I don’t know how to explain it, but the city’s history and energy has crossed my mind atleast once a day since we left.

And man, I’ve just spent 20 minutes trying to decide on which prize I would like to win. You’ve made it very hard to pick just one, but I’m going to go for the Finca Cortesin b/c it looks spectacular!

Thanks for another great contest and congratulations once again, Mrs. O!

Best travel memory? Probably my first ever press trip in Gozo. The island is so quiet and on a walk back from one of the town squares after dinner we all got lost in the labyrinthine streets. (Luckily we’d bought a bottle of wine!) We somehow stumbled across a random street party where they were singing One Direction: ‘That’s what makes you beautiful’ and ‘Que, Sera, Sera’. An hour later and we still hadn’t made it home, but back to the street party again. It was so surreal, it was like something out of ‘Groundhog Day’! An evening I’ll never forget, that’s for sure.

As for favourite prize, they’re all great! But a weekend break in Portugal would be divine!

    Congratulations, Ana.

Best travelling memory in 2013? The long weekend with my wife in Moscow. Going through most of the metro stations on the circle line, just admiring the decorations… Great memory!

Mrs O! What a wonderful way to celebrate two great years :-)!
As with many I’m fortunate to travel the world with my job as you will know, many wonderful memories but non come close to my one and only REAL memory which was when I took my
Mum away for a surprise trip to Dubai (she doesn’t travel often or spend much time with me much). Understandably Dubai wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but for her I knew it would be perfect scenery, Lots of hot sunshine and of course a nice air-conditioned mall for her to cool down and shop! My memory that will stay with me not only as we leave 2013 behind but forever is not only that my mum could see the wonder of my travels through my eyes but the joy and love I saw in hers as we stood in the tallest building in the world gazing down it was simply beautiful.
If I was lucky enough to win one of the prizes mine would be the opportunity to take her to the Corinthia London stay and spend some quality time together with both my feet firmly on the ground enjoying what my own wonderful city offers!
Congratulations on two fabulous years and bring in the next Two 🙂
    Tom 🙂

In 2013 we didn’t travel out of the country, as we are planning our wedding and there are other priorities right now. Still, I ALWAYS love our visits to London. It is a city I simply adore and I would like to know other areas of the country. When I was in Paris some years ago I didn’t like it as much as I fit visiting some surrounding towns. I am sure I’ll love England’s little towns. I hope to do that some day. 🙂

Congratulations on your blog birthday! I first discovered your blog this spring, and I’ve really enjoyed following your luxury ‘Mrs O’ adventures!

My favourite travel memory this year has to be from January, when I explored Kyoto with my fiancé, who had proposed in Tokyo a few days before. We biked around the bamboo forest in Arashiyama, explored the old streets of Gion, and hiked through the tunnels of orange Tori gates at the Fushimi Inari Shrine. My 2014 travels have a lot to live up to!

A stay at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills would be my first choice of prize, because it’s the one location where my fiancé would be able to join me. He lives in the US and I’m currently in the UK, so we have to make the most of every opportunity together – which usually means travelling!

    A very Happy Two Mrs.O!

My favorite travel memory this year is from the city soaked in history and magic, Varanasi! My first year of marriage and the move to Germany from India has been eventful. After spending six months in Europe and exploring new cultures, returning to Varanasi with my husband felt like homecoming. The chaotic streets, color and not to miss the ‘holy cow’ all seemed exotic and a reminder of what life was before I moved to Europe. The famous burning ghats of Varanasi a constant reminder of ‘So much to do, so little time.’

The 2 nights at the Westin Grand Berlin is tempting because in my heart “Ich bin ein Berliner.”

My favorite travel memory from 2013 was a work trip to Copenhagen that I tacked a few days on to. Copenhagen was such a pleasant surprise. A beautiful city, full of delicious food, endless pints of Carlsberg, and the nicest people I have yet to meet! Hope to make it back someday.

It is SO tough to pick a trip to just one of those lovely places, but if forced I would say the trip to Portugal, because it seems truly fantastic and has been on my list for quite some time!

I think my favorite travel memory of 2013 was stumbling into the most perfect hotel, right on the beach in Costa Rica. We were backpacking, which meant I wasn’t allowed to make any reservations ahead of time. I sometimes find that the best traveling experiences just happen to you, and aren’t something you would have ever planned for yourself.

This hotel was a hole in the wall, i’m not even sure it had a website, but the staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was idyllic and I can’t wait to go back!

My best travel memory was from this summer when we visited our former foreign exchange student in Munich, Germany. We have so many memories of the sights in and around Bavaria. We don’t speak any German, but our friends took us almost everywhere and we really didn’t need to speak much German as so many people speak English. One evening though, we found ourselves at a small Biergarten that did not have menus in English. What a sense of accomplishment we had when we ordered our food and it came exactly how we expected it to and it was delicious!

Of course any of the prizes would be fabulous, but the Four Season Beverly Hills is probably most realistic for me on short notice. As a physician, my schedule is CRAZY!!! Not much time for play!

My answers to this 2 part question are directly related. My favorite travel memory from 2013 is from a nearby destination geographically, but a far away land emotionally. This fall, we travelled to Boston to leave our firstborn at University for the first time. The emotion of that trip – the incredible combination of pride and grief, makes it unforgettable.
And my answer to part 2 of your question, relates to part 1. We are a family that has loved to travel – and are at our best when we are experiencing someplace and something new together. Now that we have a child in college, our budget to create those moments is very limited. We would love to take any of the trips described – and would welcome the opportunity. Thanks!

2013 has been a great travel year for me and I have had many lovely moments, but my favourite has to be the day we explored the Amalfi Coast. Visiting Positano after dreaming about it ever since I saw Robert Downey Jr in Only You years ago was just amazing!
As for your fabulous prizes – the one I’d pick would be the Westin Grand Berlin. Berlin is such an easy city for me to get to and we talk about how ridiculous it is that we’ve never been there so much at home. I really need to go!

I love following all your adventures. We moved to Milan from the US this year and have been exploring as much as our schedules will allow. My favorite travel moment is when we took our kids to one of our favorite places on earth- Umbria, Italy. Hill towns, vineyards, wine, great food. Heavenly.

I’ve been dreaming of going to Andalusia, and Finca Cortesin sounds amazing. However, since I started reading your blog, I now really want to visit Portugal too =) Hard to choose just 1 when you have so many lovely options.

It’s super hard to choose my top 2013 travel moment, I have been very lucky this year. I would say it was having a stop over in Hong Kong on the way to visit my Dad in the Philippines. The whole trip was fantastic, and my boyfriend got to meet my Dad for the first time! But seeing his amazement at HK was perfect. He has never been outside Europe(we live in Madrid)and he was amazed at the buildings, the people, the street food, everything. That would be one of my highlights, I always love turning people onto travel!
It’s a tough choice, but I would love to win the 2 nights at the Westin Grand in Berlin, I have never been to Germany and Berlin is on my list for next year, winning this would be the perfect reason to go!

Firstly… a very happy birthday and congratulations on a very successful happy looking year.

My travel memory of 2013 was a road trip from London to France (with a little bit of Italy thrown in for the pasta and gellato) The crystal clear waters of Lake Annecy and Gorge Verdon were my two favorite stops on the trip for the chilly dips, wild swimming and completely breathtaking views.

As a keen foodie I couldn’t think of anything lovelier than a stay at the beautiful Finca Cortesin or a collection of hg2 books to feed my wanderlust.. 😉

Happy anniversary Mrs. O! Keep up the beautiful journeys! My best vacation memory of 2013 was a deja vu’ journey as a tourist in my former hometown of Albuquerque, my first return trip since moving 7 years ago. It was neat to revisit places, find old favorites and see the place through a tourist’s eyes rather than as a local. What prize to pick? Too many great ones! Portugal? London? Spain? Flytographer? How to choose? (Europe-based though, since I live in Italy.)

My favourite travel memory this year would have to be our honeymoon in Hawaii – I made it my mission to spot a turtle while we were there – mission was completed by 9am on our first day, after walking 50m down the beach from our hotel! Although I usually pick somewhere I’ve been with my sister as my favorite place this year she wasn’t along for the thrill on my favorite experience. I won a trip to Iceland and was thrilled because I’ve always wanted to go there. I went with a blogger friend as my sister’s health isn’t agreeable to Iceland’s weather. And I got to (among many other fun things) snorkel in a lake formed by a glacier! It was as cold as it sounds although they do a great job of bundling you up your face and hands get very cold. There wasn’t anything live like fish but beautiful almost neon grasses and ancient volcanic rocks. A really unique experience! As to the prize – I’m hoping to spend a month in Portugal in 2014 so winning two nights at that lovely property would be a good start!

My favourite memory of 2013 was discovering Rome with my boyfriend. We were both celebrating finishing our respective degrees and on the final evening, we ate in the courtyard of a vine-covered restaurant on a winding street near the Spanish Steps. It was just as I had imagined. Later, as we walked back to our hotel, we turned to see St Peter’s basilica glinting in the pinky-purple evening sky. If I close my eyes I can still see it now.

The prize I would most like to win is the Flytographer session, so that we can create more unforgettable memories in our 4th year together.

Once again congrats to fantastic travel blog and a true entrepreneureal inspiration!

My best travel memory of 2013 was probably a trip to Biarritz France in June. Admittedly I have a tendency to lean towards the French Riviera when travelling to France, having spent a lot of time there and being fortunate to have lived there for a couple of years but … I was astonished and by the beauty of the roaring Atlantic. The cool chic attitude of Biarritz was a fantastic new experience and shopping was great. No need to even mention the food and wine, number one! I would very much like to wine the prize to Finca Cortesin, as much as I love city travelling I also would like to experience something new and just relax and getting pampered. Finca Cortesin seems like the right place to just hang out and spoil your tastebuds with great wine and food and nor do I mind to get a hit by a few sun-rays either.

My favorite travel memory of this year would have to be taking my entire family to the British Virgin Islands. I’d been there myself several times, but to see them experience it for the first time was pretty great! We hit up Willie T’s on Norman Island, Foxy’s and Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke and of course explored the Spanish Baths on Virgin Gorda. It was a great trip!

My best travel memory of 2013 was spending three months, eating, sleeping and circumnavigating the whole of Australia from a rusty, beaten up station wagon. Waking up to the sight of the sun rising, driving along roads that had no end, and parking up in deserted creeks and calling it our home for the night was something truly special. Having said that, three months of sleeping in the back of car has meant that we’d be mighty appreciative of a nice bed to spend the night or two, in! London and Berlin would be to of the wish list!

My special memory this year was the clock striking 12 and watching the glorious cascade of fireworks over Sydney Harbour, a once in a lifetime experience, with loved ones in one of our planets most beautiful cities, it was truly magical.

And if I were to win I would certainly opt for the Four Season in LA, the birth place of, It was here that I came up with the idea, 5 years ago. My cherished luxury travel memory this year was staying at The Parador in Santiago de Compostela having completed a 500 mile, 38 day walk to Santiago starting from the French side of the Pyrenees, staying mostly in dormitory-style accommodation. Bliss to wallow in luxury after such an uplifting, life-changing, inspiring and challenging journey.

    A very happy 2nd birthday Mrs O!

I absolutely love your blog and enjoy #girlstravel on Mondays too. Both are the highlight of my week.

What a fabulous prize you have on offer? How on earth is a girl expected to choose?

I have been unwell and my lovely hubby has been amazing, so because of this, it would have to be the Berlin trip. Colin is a fluent German speaker and loves the opportunity to use his language skills. He’s never been to Berlin and reads and watches lots about military history. It would be a lovely thank you to him for being there for me (and I’m not an easy patient lol).

Added to that, we adore the Westin brand. The spa looks amazing, so whilst he explores, I’ll chill and relax, followed by a yummy meal and a fabulous night’s sleep in the Heavenly bed – ahhh, I’m relaxing as I type.

We travel a lot, but I have to say this years most memorable trip was much closer to home. We stayed at a beautiful country house and spa, only a couple of hours from home. My husband had grown up in the area, so we walked to places he’d visited as a child. As his mum has passed away, it brought back some wonderful childhood memories. It was lovely to go home and show his dad the photos – he was in tears when we showed a picture of their old house.

Thank you so much for your blog again, Mrs O. Love keeping up with your travels and adventures. Long may they continue. 🙂 xxx

    Best travel memory in 2013:
Luxembourg where I went to work for a whole month and had the chance to spend some time with family and friends!

I would love to win weekend for two at the Herdade do Vau, in Alentejo, Portugal!
I absolutely love Serpa and its surrondings

Congrats Mrs O, love the Flytographer photos. Hope to try them out some day.
My favorite travel memory was taking my daughter to the UK for 5 weeks. She is only 5 years old and after her first day in London she said ‘London’ is the best city in the world. And she has been to 16 other countries already.
So I guess for me I would love to spend a night in London in luxury, perhaps this time with just my husband or I am sure I could persuade one of my girlfriend’s to join me.
    Happy 2nd Birthday.

An amazing blog from an amazing lady, it’s no surprise this is such an amazing giveaway! Time flies when you’re having fun, I hope to keep reading the blogs and tweets for many more years. There is nothing more uplifting that the famous Mrs O star jumps, so keep them coming too!

I’m blessed with very frequent travel. This year has been extra special with great journeys with great friends. My latest trip to the Philippines has left a lasting mark, to meet and know so many people affected by Haiyan, and I am humbled to help and be part of this great country and people. Beyond Haiyan, my memories of Manila are smiles, hospitality, shopping and great dining. Wander a little further to the paradise islands and add blues skies, white sands and amber sunsets.

But, there’s no place like home. I treasure time out on my doorstep, so for that reason my chosen destination has to be London at the Corinthia. You have sold it well, I would be delighted to unwind in this luxury!

Many happy returns, here’s to many more!

Thank you so much for your kind words, Pandora. I was going to ask you about Philipines as I noticed you were back there shortly after Haiyan. Best of luck and thank you for your continued support 🙂

Firstly, a huge big, momentous happy Birthday to Mrs O! I too can’t believe its only 2 years! The Mrs O project is a force of nature!!!

Your blog continues to inspire me (and no doubt countless others!) to travel in style, and to never settle! Thank you!

To enter the competition, I’d say my favorite travel memory from this year is without a doubt the memorable gourmet dining experience at the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom ‘Le Loft’ restaurant. Seated next to the floor to ceiling windows with the amazing views over Vienna, I really felt like I was supended above the city, enjoying the best meal I ever had!

To be honest, I’d be happy to win any of the amazing prizes on offer…if its approved by Mrs O, its bound to be fabulous! But never having been to LA, the Four Seasons Beverly Hills would be heaven!!!

Cheers to you turning 2, and I hope the coming years are even more fabulous!!!

My favourite trip of the year was a visit to the Amalfi Coast – despite the rain, it was still fantastic. We visited Amalfi, Ravello and Capri, but there’s so much more to explore.

I’d love to win the stay at Finca Cortesin – I stayed nearby a few years ago but missed a visit as I was unwell – those who went couldn’t stop talking about the place – I was so disappointed!

    Congrats on celebrating 2 years!

My favorite memory of the year was probably my most recent trip to London. I’ve done and seen a lot in the past year, but that trip was special for so many reasons. In fact, it was so special, that I’m seriously considering moving there! (Also glad I got to see you on that trip!)

Hard to choose what I’d want most from this list, but probably the photo shoot – looks like so much fun!!

Happy anniversary Mrs O blog! I’ve enjoyed reading about your luxury adventures and can’t wait for more!

My favorite travel experience was seeing the Bayeux Tapestry in Normandy this Spring. I travel to see art and this was such an incredible piece. It was quite a thrill to spend nearly a day with it in person soaking in all the amazing details! Of course, the food and hospitality in Northern France wasn’t bad either!

How can I pass up a perfect hotel stay? 🙂 I would want the 2 nights at Finca Cortesin, Andalucia, Spain! Thanks, I hope I win!

The Tapestry (really more of an embroidery) is ~70m long and depicts the Norman invasion of Britain and the Battle of Hastings. There is cartoon-like quality to the figures that I just love. 🙂 It is amazing that it survived in such great condition. I have to (finally) post on it soon!

Thanks again! I hope I am the lucky winnner!

Without a doubt, my favorite travel memory of 2013 was traveling to Paris to meet a girl who I had only met for the first time a few weeks prior. It was spontaneous and a complete leap of faith, but was the best trip of my life. It was the first time that I had been to Paris, and definitely lived up to all the expectations I had of the most romantic city in the world. Of course, the girl helped with that!

I would love to win the trip the 2 night stay in Finca Cortesin in Andalcuia, Spain. Spain has always been high on my list of countries to visit, and what better way to experience it than in luxury at Finca Cortesin? The hotel looks to die for!

Happy blog birthday! Hope there are many more to come!

My best travel memory for 2013 was definitely my first trip to Lisbon! My family is from the Azores so I spent several childhood summers there, but I didn’t have an opportunity to visit mainland Portugal until this past September. It was worth the wait and will hopefully be the first trip of many to mainland Portugal! The architecture, the landscapes, and the food were all amazing. As a photography buff, I never ran out of scenery to photograph. To top it all off, I visited with 2 of my oldest and dearest friends. Mrs. O, I must additionally thank you for your Portugal blog posts which helped to make my trip even more wonderful.
All of the prizes sound fabulous, but I must say that a stay at Finca Cortesin sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity! It would be another first for me, first trip to Spain!

Congratulations! Love reading all of the luxury experiences over the past two years. This year my travels have been all in the last two months and am on a quick RTW award ticket so while it has rained 6 of the last 7 days in Australia seeing the twelve apostles along the great ocean road from Melbourne was a highlight so far -especially the helicopter flight there. Also meeting new friends in the travel blogging community has greatly enriched my travel life. As for prizes, I’ve not been to Berlin so winning that would give me reason to go (my current trip was inspired by a twitter hotel win in Sydney!)

Congratulations on your 2nd blog birthday!

My blog is 2yrs old this year too and it’s been an amazing time – like you I’ve loved every minute of it and already going into my 3rd year exciting things are happening. Hoping your 3rd year will be just as fabulous!

I have to say my best travel experience this year has to be my first trip to Paris. For so long I’d hears friends talking about it positively and seeing so many TV shows/films with Paris as the setting all fuelled my growing desire to visit myself. I have to say it was everything I hoped it would be! With four days to fill we did do most of the tourist things but also spent time just soaking up ‘being in Paris’. My favourite experiences were seeing the sunset over Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower, walking through the gardens, eating pastries by the Arc de Triomphe & walking by the Seine at night.

LA, London or Berlin would be my top three from the prizes, but as I haven’t yet been to Berlin that would be my top choice. I heard lots of positive things about the City plus a spa room always gets my vote

Always hard to pick just one favourite…so I’ll go with two:

    1. Just last week, walking the streets of London with my sister after dark, right after the city had finished putting up its annual Christmas lights display.

    2. A warmer, sunnier memory of a week-long family vacation playing in the waves on beautiful Hornby Island, BC.

Congratulations on 2 years Mrs. O!! I have really enjoyed reading your blog and also becoming a part of your blogging community. I have used your trip reviews many times this year and they have been great. I have also enjoyed interacting with you and giving you my feedback on my discoveries of places, that as you would say, are “fab.”

My favourite travel memory of 2013 would have to be spending time in Shanghai, China with my mum and aunt. I did an exchange program there this year and I loved showing off my adopted city to my mum and aunt and taking them to my favourite restaurants and even night venues.

Now that I have started working, I would love to be able to spend time in Finca Cortesin with my mum. Your review of that property was amazing and I have wanted to visit since then. I can definitely find the time to go visit. Fingers crossed! 🙂

Congrats for two years xx. This haven’t been the best traveling year for me but I feel happy because of my two London trips. And yeah I’m interested in that London night or photography thing :)!

    Congratulations on turning two!

My best travel memory has to be exploring the east coast of Australia in a campervan with my husband. It was fantastic to see this beautiful part of the world at our own pace and I loved having the freedom to stop off and explore anywhere we wanted. We stayed in some incredibly beautiful and remote spots; one of my favourites was Bundjalung National Park. With forests as far as the eye could see on one side and Ten Mile beach on the other, it was just breathtaking! After exploring the bush we sat for hours watching whales breaching out at sea. It is something I will remember for a long time to come.

All the prizes look fantastic! I would love to spend a night at the Corinthia. I live on the south coast of the UK so London is very close to home but I never really make the time to explore it. It would be great to spend some time near to home with a night of luxury!

Best travel moment of my year was 10 days in Jamaica. Too many great moments that they just have to join up into 10 days of wonderfulness! There is so much press about it being a dangerous place etc etc. But wow – this is so wrong, we managed to drive through Kingston at night with a bad map and once we’d done that and arrived in the mountains for a rum punch welcome, I knew this was an island we’d need to visit over again! Jamaica is THE place to be in the Caribbean – an empty island by Caribbean standards (the hotels are surprised you arrive in your own car), amazing service culture, stunning beaches, great food, great variety of hotels and basically just amazing! Maybe I shouldn’t mention Jamaica as so amazing as I don’t want it to change!

Definitely a blog that got me started on my own, so happy 2nd birthday!! Signed up already, and I’ve tweeted too. I’d most like to win the trip to Finca Cortesin – I remember tweeting when you were there as I never knew that area had such beautiful spots! I’d probably have to extend the stay!

Hello Mrs. O! Congratulations for your wonderful blog! Keeps me dreaming all year round… In 2013 I travelled a bit but one of the nicest trips was the one to Bali, known as the ‘Island of the Gods´. It offers such access to an unrivalled cultural legacy, that passes from one generation to the next as the oldest rituals and customs are continually renewed and refreshed. It was lovelyto travel from the east to Ubud’s emerald rice terraces in the interior, to the white-sand beaches of the south coast.

    Happy 2nd Birthday!

My best travel must be my trip to Bali. It not only helped me get away from London and switch off, but it has also enabled me to really reconnect with my true self. I spent a month surrounded by the purest nature, kindest people and most enchanting spiritual ceremonies. We often hear about traveling to find oneself – it sounds so cliché – and this was my first and only experience of exactly that. I will forever cherish that trip as it has influenced many positive changes in my life.

I would love to win the Hg2 guides – I love reading and I love travelling and I am always on a look out for inspiration. Who knows where they would take me..

Happy Bolgiversary (is that a word? – I suppose it is now!)and thank you for continuing to enlighten me about world travel.
I don’t get out much, so my best travel memory of 2013 is by no means as exciting as some – but I did take a trip to the Alpujarras in Andalucia, via Málaga, meeting up with a few fellow bloggers and writers en route. Not a terribly exciting jaunt – but it was the first solo trip I had made within Spain and became a journey for me (in more than one sense of the word) that I won’t ever forget.
As to which of the (fantastic) I would like to win the most? Very difficult to choose as all of the Spain & Portugal ones are so appealing – add to that the thought of ‘living it up’ in London when I’m over next March – and it becomes quite the dilemma! I’m going to go with the Finca Cortesin – I should get to know Andalucia better and would probably never justify staying at a place as luxurious as that – so it would be a real treat!
Thanks for running such a great competition and I look forward to many more years of ‘Mrs O’ blogs.

I would have to say I’d love to win a night at The Corinthia in London … having had a nose around one day it was fantastic.

As for my travel memory for 2013, I would have to say travelling in a torchlit convoy of horse-drawn sleighs in the snow-covered streets of Zakopane, a winter resort in Poland, with a little bit of Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzk – a warming herbal vodka. A sleigh ride was a first for me and something I would happily do again.

Dos prémios, qualquer um seria óptimo, mas Londres é um destino que tenho muita curiosidade e vontade de conhecer!!
    Obrigada 🙂

Thank you so much, Issa. Lovely to meet you during WTM in London. And the question – where would you like to go?

I did travel around a lot in 2013 – it must have been the year I traveled the most in my life. Some places were new, others a repeat but all have been fantastic. It’s hard to pick a favourite but I’ll probably say Amsterdam – I really want to go back again.
I’d love to go to Berlin next year! So please, it’ll be the Westin Grand for me 🙂

The best travel memory I had this year was probably visiting Southern California for my 18th birthday in March. The trip was part of my present from my beloved parents and the excitement started when I got to experience Air New Zealand’s Economy SkyCouch Product which literally allows two people to have three economy-seats to themselves which at the touch of the button transform into a fully-flat couch! It was pretty awesome being able to lounge around whilst looking outside the window at 37,000 feet. But that was not all! I also got to visit Disneyland – the original Disney theme park and met up with a bunch of my friends who surprised me with a personalised t-shirt signed by all of them and then we spent almost 10 hours having fun in the parks and enjoying rose-water lemonade and snacks in an exclusive lounge known as 1901, which is open to members of the prestigious Club 33! I also got to visit Los Angeles for the day and walk along the famous Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach, it was truly a memorable holiday and something I will always remember!

Where would I love to stay? It would have to be the Four Seasons in Los Angeles! I have always heard so many good things from people who have been lucky enough to stay there, and after reading about your experience Mrs O, I can say that I long to stay there so much. I’ve never really had more than a day to explore Los Angeles and other areas in Southern California, so being able to stay in a gorgeous hotel in a central location would be brilliant!
