Finding the perfect luxury flat sandals isn’t always easy

I live in flat sandals and I am delighted that designers have been listening to us – what can I wear on a beach holiday that looks smart yet is super practical? I like having options and here are my top 5 flat sandal suggestions for your next luxury beach holiday.

Hermes Oran Flat Sliders

Costs £445 from Hermes stores

Probably one of the most timeless slider sandal model ever – and most discreet too. I have had mine for a few years and I love them. They are perfect for breakfast and going to the pool (I do try to keep them away from the sand) – and they still look brand new. They new available in multiple colours and there is also a version with a heel.

Valentino rockstar leather sandals

Cost £690 from Net a Porter

I have had mine for years and they continue to be available season after season. This is my favourite colour but also available in black and nude. They are stunning and perfect for your next trip.

There is also a rubber version which I am eyeing up as they would be perfect for beachier holidays (think Maldives). They cost £360.

Rene Caovilla metallic flat sandals

Cost £720 from Net a Porter

They scream Middle East for me – and I just love them.

Canfora ‘Gail’ sandals (handmade in Capri)

Costs €149.00 from Canfora

I have been buying these for almost 5 years – but worry not, I just buy a new colour each season. And the older ones, look as fabulous as the newer ones. Beautifully handmade in Capri, their worldwide shipping service works very well. When I ordered my first pair, they immediately sent me a second one without waiting for me to return them. As an anecdote, a reader was in Capri recently and asked me if I needed another pair… turns out I couldn’t resist. And if you happen to be there, they actually cost €100 only.

You can choose the flat ones (I have them in cognac and gold), with a mid-size heel and wedge (I have those in silver and cognac). They are pretty perfect.

Havaianas

Costs from £20/$40 (depending on the model and location) from Selfridges,  Amazon Europe or USA and also available from Zappos.

I still think there is a time and a place for everything and every woman should have a couple of pairs of Havaianas in their beach closet. What I like about them is that they have been very good at changing their collection every year and make it more interesting. I have had a pair of ‘sand coloured’ slim Havaianas for about 10 years, and recently have been able to add some new ones.

I also like the new ones which look a bit less plastic and they come in different colours, so there is something for everyone.

Melissa Odabash

Costs from £60 from Selfridges.

When you want to give the Havaianas a break, these leather Melissa Odabash flip-flops are chic and will get you pretty much anywhere. They aren’t that expensive, so a bit of sand will not really hurt them (and they offer 15% discount if you sign up for emails). I have mine in bronze and they are lovely. They come in a variety of shades.

Note there is a small issue with the sizes for European shoe lovers – 37 is the smallest size, but it is in fact a 36 (which is a 3.5UK and 6 USA). It says 37 = US6, which is not the case, so just order a size bigger if you are using the European scale).

So here are my suggestions – all the flat sandals I have chosen are timeless and I honestly do not think you can go wrong. And if you need the perfect travel tote, you can find it here. Or maybe you fancy the perfect pair of espadrilles?

Happy shopping and let me know which flat sandals you chose!
