Mrs. O Around the World’s Summer 2014 Luxury Giveaway

I have said many times before that Summer is indeed my favourite season of the year – there is something about the heat indeed! Mine has been very good so far – from the 5 trips for Summer I had planned, I have been on 3 of them. Needless to say, I cannot wait for the other two (my beloved California and the Venice-Simplon Orient Express trip from Venice).

If I moved any further.. where would I be? Not a bad place

I am *very* good at enjoying summer, I have to confess!

But you know me, I don’t want to keep these experiences all to myself – and 3 times a year, I organise some very special giveaways to share with my lovely (I mean it, seriously lovely and fab) readers. Around my birthday, the blog’s birthday and Summer!

So without further ado, here are the 4 summer prizes I will be giving away soon:

    Hi Mrs O,
Another great competition with amazing prizes. They are all wonderful prizes but the British Pullman or London stays would be my personal choices.
My summers have always been spent in the south of Spain where I have been lucky to grow up with a family villa my parents bought when I was very young. It is home from home for us & as a child we would spend the summer here with my sisters & parents & that now continues on with my own family.
The best summer however has to be the summer of 1990, I was out here in Estepona enjoying the sunshine & sea with my family, age 16 at the time & just getting to enjoy the nightlife too….my Father had agreed to let me go out with friends locally in the evening…with a curfew of course! It was on one of these nights out that I met a boy!!… We spent the rest of our summer holiday together, my 1st summer holiday romance with the dreaded thought that he lived in Manchester & I in Surrey & we would not see each other again upon the end of our holidays. The story goes on for what became many years & next week we will be celebrating our 15th wedding Anniversary here in our very special place in the south of Spain.
Every summer we come here to Estepona, avoid the very touristy areas for August & dine in our favourite local villages & beach bars with the best tapas & enjoy sundowners on the beach till late! Our best type if relaxed summer. Lovely memories! I hope you have a wonderful next trip in the States, I look forward to reading about it. X

  2. Samantha Cude /

My favourite summer holiday was in Mallorca. We had a villa, the kids were little and loved the pool. My mum and dad came too and it was fantastic.

My favourite out of the 4 would be the London hotel. The Hubster and I don’t get away often on our own and it sounds fabulous (although the train sounds wonderful too)

  3. Loryn /

My favorite summer vacation was visiting the coast of Ecuador and helping to build a farm for an orphanage in Chone. The people were so friendly in every place we visited in Ecuador and the culture is so rich and vibrant. I love exploring new places and would be ecstatic to win a trip to Argentina or ride the Belmond British Pullman

  4. Ellie S /

My favourite summer trip ever was my first visit to Italy. It was definitely love-at-first-sight. I read about Italy’s charms in travel books and wasn’t disappointed. I loved the scenery, the people, the food & the history. And when I ventured even further south, I discovered rugged coastlines, gorgeous (and less touristy!) beaches & even more delicious food which was lucky, as I love food! :)

If I won, I’d love to stay in one of the Cheval Residences. (Fingers crossed!)

  5. Danielle /

My favorite summer vacation ever was a roadtrip my boyfriend and I took along the West Coast of the US. We drove up highway 1, took it slow, and stopped at many places between LA and San Franscisco. It was breathtaking, but also immensely relaxing and a heck of a lot of fun.

I am most looking forward to the Clubhouse in Buenos Aires. I am hoping to make a trip to South America next summer, and this would be the perfect motivation!

  6. Joana Marta /

Emotions always sound better in our native language…in english I can say my best summer trip was with my family and friends to the Algarve, Armação de Pêra. Because we all stay together, I remebember the smell of the meals and the joy of the children being together in the pool…and the crazy trip in a Renault 5 full of things anda children singing and asking if it took to long to get there!

I would like to choose the 2-night stay at Cheval Residences – London!Thats the kind of vacations I prefer now! :)

  7. My favourite summer trip was when my mom took my brother and I to Jamaica. It was right before I started university and (so far) was our last family trip together!

Would love the train – seems so unique!

    Dear Miss O,

Thank you for presenting such a wonderful opportunity.
My favourite summer was when I did a mini tour of Innsbruck, Vienna, garda lake and portoroz. I would love stay 3 nights at The Clubhouse in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as Argentina is amongst one of my destination to visit and I’m so proud to see that my work place is amongst the great prizes.

  9. I have to pick a *favorite*? Hmmmm. Probably boating the Canal du Midi. A week of floating from vineyard to wine cave past glorious scenery. At night, we sat topside and watched the shooting stars fly overhead as we polished of the wine from the day.

You know I’d pick the train journey :)

I went to The Hamptons outside of NYC last summer.
It had always been a place I wanted to visit, and it absolutely delivered.
Classic Americana! I would love to win the stay at The Kensington Hotel. It looks
beautiful and like the perfect place to stay in London! But, I would love to win any of the fantastic prizes. Thank you, Mrs. O!

  11. Diane Viton /

Our favorite summer trip was when we rented a super cool house on the beach in Laguna Beach, California. We settled in and lived like locals for two weeks. The weather was fantastic and the sound of the surf every night was magical.

I’d love to take a girls trip to London with my 16 year old daughter & stay at the Kensington Hotel.

Enjoy these last few days of summer!

  12. My favorite summer trip would be the day road trip that I took with my dad a few weeks ago to Watkins Glen, NY. My dad and I so rarely get to go on a road trip together (or get out at all for that matter) due to his health, but he was feeling up to the three and a half hour trek to Watkins Glen, NY, near the Finger Lakes, where they have some of the most lovely waterfalls and hiking trails. While it was surreal being in such a magical and beautiful place, I couldn’t help but feel more grateful that I got to experience it with my dad. It’s moments like that, that I will cherish forever.

Oh and my favorite prize would be the 2-night stay at the Cheval Residences luxury apartment in London, that looks amazing! I’ve only been to London once for two nights and didn’t get to explore the magnificent city nearly enough and would love to go back.

  13. Summer trips are always amazing because it’s the summer and reminds me of being on break from school and having carefree days. My favorite summer trip was one we took for several years, spending a week at Cape May Point, New Jersey, wtih my parents, sisters and good family friends. We had vacationed there when i was young, and it was nice to return as adults, with our parents, and relax by the shore, eat communal dinners and have fun laughing while playing games at night.
I’d love to win a night in the Kensington Hotel. It’s been ages since I’ve been to London, and I need a refresher trip!

My favorite summer trip is probably the one I just took with my family this past July where we visited London, Rome, Venice, Florence, Paris, Barcelona and Madrid. It was an absolutely insanely busy journey, with so much to do, but I had the amazing opportunity to do this with my mom, my two aunts and my 15 year old cousin. It was the experience of a lifetime! And thanks to your suggestion Mrs O, we even topped it off with a photoshoot that will help us keep the memories alive of that great trip. My dream prize would be the stay in Buenos Aires…

  16. Fiona Fulton-Allen /

I haven’t traveled far, in fact my husband and I are about to embark on our first overseas holiday, to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Needless to say we are so excited! I do have a favourite summer holiday like experience though, which is very close to home. We live on the Far South Coast of Australia and our little coastal town becomes very busy over summer. During the day we run a small cafe at the wharf in Eden NSW. At about 6pm during the summer months we escape the “silly season”as we call it we, by going home to our property which is right on our very own river. The work clothes come off and the swimmers go on as we head to the river for a relaxing swim. Our life style is slowly changing and the cafe is up for sale. 10 years have had its ups and downs but ultimately we have enjoyed it. It is definitely time for slowing down work wise but I have a feeling that our travel experiences will grow from this our first trip. Fortunately for us our refreshing river will always be in reach. PS We are already planning our next adventure. Hopefully 2015 will see us visit the UK. In this case Mrs O that 2 night stay at a Cheval Residences Luxury Apartment in London would be very much welcomed. Love your stuff!

  17. I have been really busy with life , mommy moments and my lack of health…. but I can say the best vacation memory is easy to recall, My son and I traveled by car from California to North Carolina for him to meet his Grandfather for the 1st time as well as visit my husband who was graduation from US Army boot camp….

We haven’t seen as much amazing sites and tried different types of food, places and “local” hospitality!!

There is quite an awesome and amazing traveling within the United States especially if your going g with a car some cash and just a destination!

I can say any prize would be a great time and a great chance to reconnect as a family!

I want to let you know that thanks to @SpaTravelGalAva sent me to you!!

And it’s nice to meet your blog and look forward to seeing the adventures you make!

Last year I went back to my favourite place in the whole world – Denmark, for the first time with my husband and my son. Many moons ago, I spent a year there as an exchange student, and it is still the place I love the most, so it was wonderful to be able to share it with my family. I am lucky that I have the most generous and hospitable Danish friends and spending time with them and sharing some delicious food, is a very happy memory. It is also, of course, the best place to cycle, so we did a lot of that, too. Thank you for such a fab giveaway, and to say that a 2 day stay in London would be my dream prize.

  19. My favourite summer trip ever would have to be the US road trip that my boyfriend and I did in June.
We drove from Santa Fe to San Francisco, making sure we enjoyed as much as possible of the historic Route 66.
Along the way we trekked down into the Grand Canyon, felt the heat of 53C in Death Valley and won a dollar in Vegas!
We also made sure we did as many quirky things as possible, by staying the night in a wigwam, visiting the ghost town of Chloride and checking out the world’s best preserved meteorite site.
But the best bit of all? My boyfriend proposed to me in Yosemite! The perfect end to our trip.
I’d love to win the Belmond British Pullman prize, to say a huge thank you to my fiancé for making our summer so special!

  20. My favorite summer trip was spending a summer on Nantucket Island, MA. I loved the laid back beaches and fabulous food! I would love to go to Argentina.

  21. 2 favorite summer trips – 1st one was at the age of 29 and going to Colorado for the first time. The mountains were more spectacular than I imagined! I fell in love and that love turned into me moving there about 8 months later. I lived there for 15 years! 2nd, and more recently, I spent almost 2 weeks on the Greek island of Santorini. Bliss! I spent 4 nights in Firostefani and then 8 nights in a rented cave house in Oia. I loved the long days, runs in the morning with the local street dogs of Oia, sunsets with the all the other travelers at Sunset Point and looking out to the blue-green Aegean Sea imagining the Greeks in their boats being guided by the gods!

    Mrs O’!

My favorite summer trip os always Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. The city vibe is amazing, people are so nice, happy and relaxed and the nature…ohhh, the nature! Is so unique!

Buenos Aires is totally calling my name. The city is so beautiful, argentinian food is beyond awesome, the Malbec wines are sooo good and The CLubhouse seems like the place to be if you want perfect vacaciones! I am dying to go!

  23. Paula /

Amazing prizes Ana, thanks! The British Pullman for me please.

My favourite summer holidays for me were in Colombia with my brother and best friend. Incredible country, we stayed in four different places and travel around for almost 3 weeks. The best beaches and more impressive ones that I have seen in my life were in Parque Tayrona. Bogota and it´s nightlife were also a great discovery. I was not expecting it to be so incredibly amazing, that´s maybe why I enjoyed it so much.

  24. When I think of favourite vacations, two spring to mind.
We used to pack the car up, all four of us kids sqaushed in, me in the boot with my teddies and blankets and the suitcases on the roof, and drive through Europe. One summer we hit 5 countries. I remember vividly, reaching Mont Blanc in Chamonie on a clear crystal summers day, dressed for summer, and taking the cable car up, as a family, not realising what we were about to hit. I hyperventilated from the cold!
Moreover, if you’ve ever been to the top of Mont Blanc, and this is going back a few years so they may have fixed it by now, but there was a massive bump in the middle going up, which made it MEGA scarey!!
The other memory is one of our last family holiday as a family, before parental divorce or siblings (and my) weddings – we went to Sardinia, otherwise known as Paradise on Earth, and plonked on the beach in a posh hotel for a week, heaven!

  25. Allison /

    Hi Mrs. O!

I see that you are at it again, your summer travels sound just marvelous! Though I have had my share of lovely adventures abroad, my all time favorite summer retreat is my annual trip to Oqunquit, Maine. Great beaches, even better lobster- the town is so quaint and I love saying goodbye to summer in this seaside village every year.

All the prizes sound fab, yet I must say the two night stay at the Cheval Apartments in London sounds superb- just close enough to the Tower of London so I can get my Crown Jewels fix!

Thank you for putting this on!

  26. My best summer trip was a solo trip throughout Brasil!

My favourite trip was a road trip with 3 friends in the West Coast of the USA. We had no accommodations booked, it was 100% adventure time. We started by renting a car in San Francisco where we had the best burritos, visited Yosemite – where the landscape looked like the most perfect painting I had ever seen. Visited Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Big Sur, beach, crazy nightlife and nature at its finest.
Favourite Prize: 1 night at the Kensington Hotel.
    Thank you.

  28. Hey Miss O!
My favorite summer trip ever was the 3 months I spent in Vermont, in the Green Mountain area. It was part work (I was an ambassador at the Green Mountain & Fox Run women’s retreat) and part vacation, and it was just the most gloriuos summer that I spent hiking, touring Vermmont’s beautiful towns and just getting to know the area. It was a blast.

I would prefer the 2 nights’ stay at Cheval residence in London, but any of the prizes sounds like a real treat.

Best to you and all your readers,

  29. Best summer trip? Gosh, too many to choose from but a week sailing around the Istrian coast on a small ship a few years back was pretty special. Would love to give the British Pullman another whirl please!

  30. Shirley Wilkinson /

Firstly thank you so much for all your great blogs and of course this amazing competition. Love reading about your travels, always inspires me to do more when I go to different countries.
My favourite summer holiday has to be taking my two little girls on their first ever holiday to Lanzarote. Their faces when we got on the aircraft and taking off was priceless. I spent 10 days just smiling at their enjoyment and enthusiasm. They loved trying new foods, learning the language and meeting new people. It was for me a beautiful holiday as we bonded as a family and had the best laughs together. As cabin crew I fly to all the best holiday destinations , but I’ve found it doesn’t matter where you are in the world it’s who you are with.

Best wishes and hope to see you on your travels soon.

p.s. I would be very happy with any of the beautiful prizes, but would love to stay at the Cheval Residence for 2 nights in London if I got to choose.

  31. Alexandra /

Dificul choice! Maybe That weekend in london at cheval residences… Dream trip? Hummmm… A fabulous trip to venice With 2 of my best friends! Wonderfull times. Venice What else?..,tks!

  32. Sandra /

Oh Mrs. O, I am reading some of your older post, you are quite an adventurer, I guess we share the same love. Travel :)
Maybe, I am lucky enough to be one of the winners, if so, I’ll go for the 2 nights at Cheval Residence.
About my best summer trip ever, it has to be one of the many summers I spent with my family when I was a kid, the place is a little fishing town back home at Chile, named Mejillones, it is a small, quiet and far away from the city town. They used to have this basic housing, no luxury at all, but we had so much fun, just playing at volleyball, going early morning to the beach, swimming all day from sunrise to sunset, and at night we will play cards or just go for a walk. One of the most beloved places I remember as a child.

  33. I have had many amazing trips in the summer but the best was with my all family, by car, thru most of old Europe: from Portugal to Greece and Jugoslavia (like 26 yrs ago) for roughly 40/45 days. We visited some of Spain, mostly small villages. We went to Paris and the Eiffel Tower. To Belgium. To Italy, where we went to Rome and the Vatican, and Pompey and Brindizi where we crises on the ferry to southern Greece. We traveled to Athens and continued through Mount Pisius to Yugoslavia. There we traveled to Dubrovnik, Split and back to Italy to Venice, Florence, Pisa, Génova, Portofino and then Montecarlo, Monaco. Then it was only small villages again until we got back home to Portugal. I was 11 years old and I dream of going to all of those amazing cities again…

About my choice of those amazing prizes you offer, I would love to go to London. I have been there long ago, as a teenager, with my parents. I would love to have an adult experience of London, especially because I have a dearly loved cousin that just moved there whom I would love to walk around with. But I sure wouldn’t mind any of the other prizes…

  34. My favorite summer trip was the one I took last year with my mom and sisters to Paris. It was the first time I had been abroad and I loved every minute of our stay from wandering the streets and shops to seeing the ballet and enjoying the food and drink sites. I loved the history that surrounded me and spending time with my family. It was absolutely wonderful!

Going to Bueunos Aires is on my bucket list. I would LOVE to win the stay at the Oasis Collection clubhouse with my husband. Amazing!

  35. My best summer trip – Kashmir, India :) :)

Fond memories of Snow capped mountains, stay at the floating house boat at Dal lake , treks to glaciers :)

Planning a trip to London and nothing can be better than winning a stay at Cheval residence, london and opportunity to review the property :) :)

Although I am now excited about my upcoming summer(all 40 degrees of it!) trip back home to Zambia next month. Wish me luck in the competition for the Argentinian prize. 37. Great giveaway Mrs. O!
    Kensington Hotel for me please!

I have been fortunate to have had nice summer holidays over the years in several different countries. However, I’m really nostalgic for my childhood holidays in the south of Portugal (I’m Portuguese, by the way). And I question myself sometimes if I will ever be able to enjoy summer holidays so fully again.

My mother’s side of the family is from Lagos, probably the prettiest city in the Algarve, and my grandmother lived there for most of her life. Needless to say, I spent all my summer holidays as a child and a teenager in Lagos, and some as an adult.

I can remember how I learned to swim on Porto de Mós beach, how my family gathered around the table to eat the freshest grilled fish (yes, sardines, lots of sardines!) that fishermen brought early in the morning, how me my sister and my cousins would have our “gardening hose shower parties” in the hot summer afternoons on my grandmother house’s backyard, or how I would visit countless times the fabulous Ponta da Piedade.

For me holidays are about memories, and summer holidays in Lagos gave me some of the best memories I carry with me. Besides, the true luxury of holidays relies on being able to let go and enjoy. And those summer holidays taught me to enjoy the true pleasures of life.

What fantastic prizes!! Difficult to choose!
I have to say my favourite summer trip ever, was actually in April this year, I visited Nissi Bay in Cyprus, the beach was truly stunning but what made this the most magical of all trips? Three reasons 1) My sister got married in a stunning beach ceremony with only close family and friends present. 2) It was my little boys first holiday oversees 3) It was the last holiday I was to have with my amazing dad who was tragically killed in a road accident in France 13 weeks later.I didn’t realise at the time quite how precious that holiday was going to be.
I think I would like to win a night at the Kensington Hotel, so I can enjoy a bit of R and R and use as a base for shopping in London.
    Thanks Mrs O xx

  40. Iv been to some amazing places around the world but my favourite summer break to date has to be Venice with my husband! It’s the most amazing place! We visited all the tourist attractions & also took a trip to Murano & Burano. I cannot wait to return! I would love to go on the British Pulman trip!

Summer 2007. We traveled across the USA. Starting in NY, and over to LA. We stopped at so many amazing places and the contrast of each state was crazy! From the bustling cities in the east to the big skies in the west, I adored every minute of it!

I would love the Kensington Hotel stay. :)

  42. You do have some Amazing prizes each time you have a giveaway Mrs O! :)

My favorite Memory from summer was going on my first ever trip abroad to Barcelona with 2 friends about 13 yrs ago. I remember being so nervous on the plane my first ever flight and staying in another country was a little frightening at first. But once we were there i loved it! The food was Amazing & i loved the paella. Seeing the ocean so blue and clear so different from the UK i will never forget. And all the amazing Gaudi buildings, the zoo, hearing spanish spoken eveywhere. This Holiday was the start of my trips abroad and my desire to travel :)

The Cheval Residence Apartment please :) would love to show my Husband and little girl london and all the sights there they would love it.

My favorite summer travel memory was spending my birthday on the beach in Waikiki staying at the Royal Hawaiian, the pink palace of the Pacific. Sheer summer bliss with at Royal Mai Tai in my hand.

Favorite prize…Buenos Aires. I love every minute when I am there and miss it when I’m not.

  44. Janice Espinola /

It is difficult to pick just one favorite summer vacation, but, if I must, it would have to be Iceland. Cruising glacier lakes and exploring tectonic plates aren’t typical summer activities, but that is exactly why I loved Iceland. The otherworldly landscapes, long daylight hours, and warm temperatures make summer the perfect time of year to visit Iceland!

In regards to prizes, that is another difficult choice. You have a truly amazing selection! However,my heart is longing for Buenos Aires, Aregentina!

  45. Ooh Mrs O you are spoiling us. Again! My favourite summer memory was during a trip to France last month with five friends. Highlight was drinking champagne in a field full of sunflowers :)
My choice would be one of the London apartments – fab base for a nice little shopping trip to the City.

Each holiday has its magical moments, but Nevis is the one place that I really felt tug at my heart strings as we left by speed boat to St. Kitts to board our return flight home. It surprised us both just how much we loved it, as on arrival we thought we’d made a mistake and that we’d booked the wrong hotel and the wrong island. How wrong we were. At breakfast on our first morning at Montpelier Plantation we became cocooned in the relaxed but 5 star service and, most importantly, caressed by the warm welcoming atmosphere that imbues the whole hotel. You could stay here as a family, couple or solo traveller and feel equally at home and relaxed. The food is sensational and the option to dine in the historic sugar mill makes the outstanding food even more impressive. Cocktails in the bar before dinner is a sociable affair and this ambience explains why so many of the guests are repeat visitors, as we ourselves hope to be one day soon. Memories of the island itself include sandy beaches with hardly a soul in sight, watching the slow setting of the sun over the sea as pelicans dive-bombed for fish, turning around from that sight to see the candy pink cloud hugging the mountain top like a misplaced Mexican hat, bee sting cocktails at Sunshine bar and a general feeling that all the cares and stresses had left our bodies. Nevis is so special. We visited in 2011 and, given that things tend to move on fast, I’d recommend going very soon. Although I’m hoping that nothing is powerful enough to spoil this gem of an island.

If I won, I would love to take my husband on the train day trip. A little piece of old-fashioned luxury.

Having been an incredibly lucky “Birthday Giveaway” winner, I can vouch for the incredibly good taste that Mrs O has in selecting her Products & Services! I stayed at Finca Cortesin (check Mrs O’s report on her blog) which was the most incredible experience ever. I took my best friend with me and we extended our stay into a long weekend. It remains the single most outstanding premium vacation experience I’ve ever had, and pushed my expectations up to another level (be warned!!)
Finca is a luxury golf/spa resort where the staff know their guests so well, you don’t even need to know your room number or where your car is parked!
As a previous winner, I think my luck is used up, but fwiw I love all your London nights options as they remind me of my previous life as a city resident! Good luck everyone! X

  48. You certainly do have some fabulous give always!

My favourite summer holiday was two years ago when we took a three city trip in America. We went to Washington DC, NYC and Boston travelling to each via the Greyhound. Even though I’d been to NYC and Boston before combined with DC it felt like the first time.

I don’t think I have walked so many miles in three days as I did in DC. As it was my first visit I did do most of the ‘tourist’ things but they were many places that I had wanted to visit for years. I can’t describe how I felt being in Arlington or at the White House. I’d definitely visit DC again but live more like a local probably in George Town.

In NYC again the things I did might seem ‘touristy’ but having had them on a lust of things to do for a long time I wanted to tick them off. Eventually finding Katz’s Deli and eating one if their famous sandwiches was probably the highlight. We were in NYC for 4th July which was a huge disappointment.

In Boston we stayed in the Back Bay Area and I was already picking out apartments for my move over! I absolutely love Boston. I feel it combines the best if DC and NYC. I loved walking the Freedom Trail as well as living like a local in Back Bay.

If I was lucky enough to win I’d very much like to take my Mum on the Belmond British Pullman as this would make her year.

Hi Ana… my best Summer holidays that I can remember were back in Ireland , Dingle, Co.Kerry. I used to visit my brother for the whole school holidays, it was so different to Dublin City where I had grown up. The beautiful countryside and the Ring of Kerry. The fresh air and the long and winding roads (as the song goes), endless fields of green grass and spectacular views of Mount Brandon and walking up Conor Pass. The smell of freshly baked soda bread from my sister in laws mother’s hob when I visited the farm , I can smell it now.. and then in the evening visiting the pub, watching all the adults dancing in the Ceile as we say and partaking in a Guinness or two…and then one summer I got to go out into Dingle Bay and Fungi the Dolphin swam beside the small boat…well that made my holiday!
The people there were and still are so friendly and welcoming…would recommend it , even after all these years.

If I won Mrs O… I would like to go to the Cheval Residences and treat my friends to a long weekend away.Although I now live in England I have never really experienced London as a tourist just the odd day trip , I never actually stayed over..

  51. Eva Grussl /

Mrs O! It s great and fantastic to travel with you through all your beautiful descriptions, stories and experiences. Reading about all those prizes, I would choose maybe Buenos Aires, as I live in Brazil, Minas Gerais, historic town of Sao Joao del Rei, 500 kms away from Sp.
My best trip was to Mauritius (Sept.2013)to the One & Only Resort, St Gerain, a fantastic hotel, calm and peaceful, great rooms and the private beach… speechless, amazing. The food was incredible, all the staff so sweet and the details … OMG… Port Louis very sweet, and to swim with the wild dolphins was an experience full of emotions and tears of happiness (waiting for them in the water, and suddenly the whole family came silently, around 30-40 dolphins, passing me and the other swimmers…). Thanks so much for sharing your precious experiences with us, readers! Sucesso e saude, e felicidade sempre! Eva

  52. Two years ago I was lucky enough to be treated to a Europe road trip by my boyfriend.
We went through Austria, Germany, Croatia, Italy and Switzerland.
It lasted about 6 weeks and was absolutely amazing and the time was unforgettable.

My favourite prize is definitely the Belmond British Pullman.
I moved to London recently and I’d love to explore more of the UK.
All prices sound incredible though. What a great selection :)

  53. I’d have to go for the Bellmond British Pullman trip, sounds amazing!

My favourite summer trip ever was a trip I took to Jamaica in 2006. We avoided the usual touristy 5* all-inclusive resorts and opted for eco retreats, tree houses, beach huts and eco tents. It was glamping at its very finest.

Each morning we’d wake up to the sounds of the sea because we rarely had proper doors or windows. We’d spend our days exploring waterfalls, local markets, beaches and forest hikes. Evenings would usually be spending eating jerk chicken and drinking Red Stripe and rum (not together!) We went to local festivals where there wasn’t another tourist in sight, hitchhiked to get around and generally fell in love with Jamaica.

  54. My favourite summer trip…there have been so many… but one that really does stick in my memory was a visit to the Scottish coast one June when Atlantic Puffins actually wandered into our B and B bedroom – something that was quite common at that time of the year, we were assured. I’m not a big birdwatcher but there is something about Puffins that just makes you smile.

If I won, it would have to be the Belmond British Pullman and I’d take my 70 year old mum who loves Murder on the Orient Express and has often hinted (well told us!) she’d love to travel by train in that style!

I spent the 8 weeks school summer holiday travelling in a motorhome with our 3 children all down the west coast of France , enjoying the surfing beaches etc, really was a trip of a lifetime, if exhausting at some times. Much as I love my children a touch of luxury just for my husband and I would be the London Calling trips, Kensington Hotel or Cheval Residences look like utter bliss, just to escape for a day or two.

  60. My favourite summer trip was to Barcelona last July. It was the first trip abroad with my boyfriend (he hates flying, took 5 years for me to get him to come away with me!). Although I had an attack of the ol’ gallstones just as I was entering the aquarium (bad times), we had a great holiday overall. The food was amazing (and drinks – rose flavoured cocktails!), the weather, people, atmosphere, everything. The hotel was super modern and they even upgraded us on check-in for no reason! All these prizes are amazing but if I had to choose then I’d go for the 2 night stay at the Cheval Residences.

My best trip was a 6 month road trip in a caravan throughout Europe, mainly coastal parts from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France and Spain through my favorite country Portugal where I fell in love with the country and the people.
Now 4 years later I live in this beautiful country and can’t get enough of it.
But again I am thinking if buying another caravan again and hitting the road for another adventure.
I love traveling on the ground as you see so much diversity.
That’s why I would love to win one of your British Pullman travels, as it sounds amazing traveling like 100 years ago and on top I have never been to the countryside in England and would love to get to know it.

  65. My favorite summer trip was to Los Angeles two years ago. Didn’t spend too much time in LA since we were there to celebrate my cousin’s wedding in Huntington Beach. Huntington Beach was incredible!

The nightlife, the surf culture, even the food. All amazing! Then of course we did the most expected thing a group of 21 yr olds would do and drove to Las Vegas for a night of casino hopping and public alcoholism.

    Best trip ever!

  66. For all of the places I am fortunate to travel to each year, and in my lifetime, my favorite summer vacation is going to the shore with my family. I live in the landlocked state of Vermont and we are really beach people. Every summer, since my children were small, we have been visiting my college friend and her family for one week during the month of August. We all pile into her beach house and live a simple existence for 9 days. We ride our bikes to the ocean, boogie board in the waves, read on the beach until the sun is sets, order tons great seafood take out, go to the boardwalk and laugh late into the night. It is perfect. I would choose the Cheval Residences because I need a do-over in Europe after my most recent trip earlier this summer on a Windstar Cruise was ruined by a visit to the ER in Dubrovnik with my Grandmother on the 3rd day of our voyage. It definitely but a damper on the remainder of our trip.

I used to go on my summer holidays every year with my Dad to stay at my Aunt’s house in Clacton on sea. I have fond memories of these summers with my Dad who passed away almost 2 years ago. We used to go to the beach or pier every day and just have lots of fun and laughs in the sunshine. We used to travel there and back by train. For this reason I would like the Belmond Pullman prize as it will bring back old memories of train journeys with my Dad.

Would love the London Cheval Residences prize – used to live in London years ago and would love to go back and visit a few old friends and show my wife the sights.

  74. My best summer trip is the one I’m experiencing right now. I’m in morocco which is unlike any place I’ve ever been. The smells, the souks, the food, the riads, the Sahara and the hospitality has taken me to new heights. Next we’re off to Prague, then to Santorini. Hopefully with a stopover in England and a ride on the Belmond Brittish Pullman. :)

    • I long to go back to Morocco, has been so long! I think the next stopovers will offer a world of contrast! What a trip!

  75. With out a doubt our family road trip to the West Coast USA two years ago was one of our best summer trips. So good planning to go again next summer.

My absolutely favourite Summer trip was a USA Road trip around nine states mainly on the West coast. Yellowstone N.P was amazing and I really want to get back there sometime. Death valley in the month of August was a challenge but there were no people on my photos : )

My favorite summer holiday was a 10-day stay in a family member’s classic, shingled, stilted beach house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Long days at the beach, walks along the dunes, crab-catching, riding beach cruisers to the little market for beers and ice cream…a perfect, simple East Coast summer getaway.

  79. Well, it’s so hard to choose between all these wonderful prizes. But I think I’d like the 2-night stay at the Cheval Residencies – London is one of my favorite places in the world.
As for my favorite summer – again so many. I will probably say Tuscany (trite, I know, but true). A friend and I stayed in Florence and traveled to Venice, Sienna, San Gimignano and drank in the beauty, tastes and smells of Tuscany. Unforgettable.

My best summer holiday was to NYC, a few days before my wedding! Being our usual spontaneous selves, my then-hubby and I found an amazing deal for the flights and though, why not? We freaked a lot of people out by being away just before our wedding but we were so relaxed about it. It was like a pre-wedding honeymooon and we had the time of our lives. We ate, we saw a brilliant jazz show at Iridium and basically did what we always do, have loads of fun with each other. To add to the panic, our flight arrived late, but we had just enough time to make sure last minute wedding arrangements were in place and the next morning, we walked down the aisle!

  91. My best summer holiday? It’s got to be my trip to New York a few years ago. Years of research and day-dreaming culminated in one blissful week exploring all the sights. In fact, one of the most memorable moments was when we were driving into Manhattan – I caught sight of the Chrysler building and just burst into tears! Not even coming down with the flu during that week could ruin it for me :)

And, some great prizes – although I would have to go with the Belmond British Pullman, as my mum has been talking about this for years and I would love to take her!

Of the amazing trips listed I’d have to opt for Argentina, as I live in London and have travelled reasonably extensively but have never made it to South America. My favourite trip ever was one I didn’t expect to be my favourite – it was a road trip through California: I was blown away by the breath taking scenery which changed so much as we drive that we decided to Mae a photo diary by taking a pic from the car every 40km. There was so many wonderful places – salt lakes, snow covered peaks and desert dunes within days of each other – and the wildlife! Makes me want to travel again thinking about it!

Some places just call you to them. Majorca, Spain did that after a painful divorce one summer. My travel companion in NY cancelled on me last minute and the hotel where I was supposed to stay fell through too but I decided to go anyone and wing it, with only a one way ticket! The island welcomed me with it’s intoxicating smells of orange, pine and lemon trees and the Mediterranean air instantly found its way into my soul forever. I made life-long friends while traveling alone and loved every minute of walking aimlessly down cobble stone streets admiring the courtyards as well as feasting on figs wrapped around bacon and fresh sardines as often as I could.

Buenos Aires has been on my list of place to visit next so the Oases Collection package would be incredible. Plus, what better place to tango with my new and forever love of my life and husband of almost 4 years now than Argentina. Cheers!

Best summer trip ever was to Scotland in 2004. Little baby in tote but best time to travel with a wee one. The people, the castles and the history were brilliant. As ever Ana, your fab prizes have lured me in (and the rest of Twitter too no doubt!). Perhaps this time my lucky pants won’t let me down… having moved back in with my parents in London a year ago this month, a nights escape in a posh City pad could just save our relationship!! Need I say more?

My favourite summer… Now that’s a tricky one! I do remember a certain summer spent camping in the Lake District. Good old British weather didn’t let us down one bit, and one of my clearest memories has to be my Dad getting up in the middle of the night, and digging a trench around our tent by torchlight to avoid a major flood. Certainly not his favourite summer, but definitely one of our funniest!

  99. Amazing prizes, fantastic blog.
My favourite summer trip? Well it’s not one of jetsetting high flying trips I read about. It was camping. In the UK. Yes camping under canvas. In a tent. Not this glamping oh so popular now. Proper camping in a family tent leaks and all. Special you ask? Yes because it was uninterrupted time just my daughter and I. Priceless. No emails, no phone calls, no television. Priceless because it was just me and her. We lakes country footpaths & swam in the sea. We talked, we put the worlds to right and we people watched. We read our books and played cards. We cooked together, yes on a camping stove, who can resist a bacon sandwich. We slept next to each other on an inflatable air bed, laughing at neighbours snoring habits. I woke to watch her still sleeping, my baby, now a teenager, still happy to spend time with her mum. Priceless.

    • That sounds so perfect! Thank you so much for sharing this, Jayno.

    • Have you ever had a canal holiday Jayno? Sounds like it would be perfect for you. Take 1 week most years (except this year sadly). A week of no phone/TV/internet. It feels like leaving life behind for a week, while you recharge. SO relaxing.

Ah Mrs O – you’re really spoiling us, non?

My favourite summer memory would have to be my stay at the wonderful Villa Bordoni in Greve in Chianti. It’s a wonderful house, full of character and charm; delicious food, a well stocked wine cellar and great service. Romantic dinners in the garden, lazy breakfasts on the terrace and sun soaked days by the pool – the perfect honeymoon! (

Your blog posts are so inspiring and all of your experiences sound wonderful – personally I would love to return to Buenos Aires, a city I love so much and haven’t been to for so many years. The Oasis Collections sound amazing…Take me there!!!

  101. Hi Ana,

Simply stunning prizes. Planning a wee jaunt through the Americas next year (by trains, natch), so perhaps a 3 nights of luxury will be needed to soothe those aching bones when I get down there :D

My best summer trip? There have been quite a few over the years, but last summer involved a wee 20,000km jaunt around Europe.

Highlights were many, but the Inlandsbanan (Sweden) stands out:

But most memorable (possibly because it was the last train trip of that leg – more likely because it was the realisation of a lifelong dream) was the Trans Siberian:

    Have a look. And enjoy!

    • Wow, a real train lover! Thank you for reaching out on twitter and I look forward to following your latest adventure, Iain!

  102. Hi Ana,

Wow, wonderful content. My fave summer trip was my first trip across the world, to Southeast Asia.

I did: Bali, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Cambodia, Laos and tossed in Sri Lanka and Malaysia as well. I enjoyed it immensely because it was my first taste of international travel and I also loved the warm weather too.

A close second is my current 4 month summer stay in Savusavu, Fiji. We’re living on a cliff-side home with a million dollar view of the Pacific Ocean. After seeing many pristine tropical paradises over the past 40 months this place definitely wins the prize as the most stunningly scenic, beautiful place on earth for me.

Overall though I am cheating a bit; I haven’t been home much over the past 40 months so it’s more like an extended summer vacay ;)

    Thanks Ana.

All the best with the contest.

    I’m tweeting in a bit.

Incredible prizes, Mrs O! My favourite summer experience was the summer I graduated from university, 2004, which I spent teaching English to 11 & 12 year olds in China. I taught for 2 months & lived with a local family, the mother of which taught at the school I worked in. It was a real immersion in a very different culture, and helped me pick up some Mandarin – I surprised the family when I asked if they were talking about me during a large (50+ people) family gathering – my home stay mum asked how I knew and I said I heard her saying I taught English & I was 22, in Mandarin! I then spent 4 weeks travelling around China with another girl I taught with and had a fabulous set of experiences, including sailing along the Yangtse, travelling by overnight bus with bunk beds and the overnight train, complete with triple decker bunks.
The prize I’d love most is the Belmond British Pullman – it’d be such a contrast to the trains in China, and my parents, plus Mrs O, have sold me on the idea of luxury train travel – plus it’d be a lovely experience to share with my husband.

Hi Mrs. O, love your yearly giveaways, they’re always fun and unique!

My favourite summer trip was visiting my sister when she lived on the French Riviera. Was my first time there and got to enjoy the beautiful coast and all the amazing food and drink.

If I won, I’d choose the Cheval Residences. My sister now lives in London and I plan to visit her next summer, so it would be perfect!

  105. Being based in Gran Canaria, we wouldn’t be able to qualify for any of these prizes. But, we’ll share nonetheless. And, in answer to your question, Scotland. Few years back. Family holiday which took in Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Loch Ness, Loch Lochy, Mull, and a fair few more places in between.

    • Why not? You can come to London to visit.. or Buenos Aires? :) Scotland is so on my list. I have been getting a lot of signs lately!!

  106. My favourite summer holiday has to be a fortnight exploring Italy – from Venice to Rome. Wonderful weather, incredible food and breathtaking sights, what more could you need?
It would have to be the Belmond British Pullman!

  107. Favourite summer trip ever? It has to be Cornwall last year? We don’t normally go away in the summer, but last year we did – and first stop was my grandparents house. They told us about their Cornwall (they’re Cornish) and we visited everywhere they mentioned. Stunning and we knew we were seeing the local favourites and places I didn’t know existed – quite simply Cornwall at its hidden finest! Even better – did a slide show for them on the way home and then a calendar for Christmas. Families and memories – wonderful things!

My favourite of the prizes is (I think – it’s difficult) the Cheval Residences – you don’t know how much I would love a home from home in London rather than my normal Hilton room… Yes please!

British Pullman please! I loved following your trip when you went… so chic!! My best memory? My first road trip around Italy with my now husband. We did it on a budget when we were 21 and now (in our late thirties) we did it again 3 years ago. We went to the same places but stayed in much nicer places, ha ha.

Amazing prizes, thank you Mrs. O!! We are planning a trip with the kids in London and the Cheval apartment with the view of the Tower of London seems perfect. Very good locations they have in London!

Mrs. O!!! OMG what amazing prizes!! I don’t know what to choose. I am actually planning a trip to Buenos Aires so maybe I could win that great stay? Just looked at their website and their properties look so nice!

My favourite memory from summer – the ones I spent in Provence and they lasted 3 months. Not a care in the world, and lots of family and friends around. We would go to the beach, then home for lunch and spend the afternoon at the pool. And summer was 3 months. I did this for almost 18 years and actually never really appreciated it. I would love to have another 3 month summer with my children and family (it is just not possible nowadays!!)

    • OMG, I know what you mean. The childhood summers that really lasted for a whole summer – fab weather, food and family. And pretty places!!
