Portugal means to me the simple life…the warm summer nights…good food and of course the warmth of home!

  2. Mark Johnson /

Nice place to be, warm, good food, plenty to look at, nice beaches

  3. Why do I want to go to Portugal? I’ve never been and would love to explore the amazing culture the city has to offer.
When I think Portugal I think Portuguese egg tarts, along with spicy marinades on food as well as beautiful architecture – traditional and artsy!

  4. Portugal has long been on my list of places to travel…but my list is incredibly long! I think of old world charm and beautiful beaches when I think of Portugal…I would love to take my daughter this year, before she turns 18 and leaves the nest! Winning this contest would make that possible. :)

  5. I want to go to Portugal because I’ve only been once so far, to Porto.. and in fact I’m returning there again next week to take part in Europe’s first Color Run (http://www.thecolorrun.pt). I LOVE Porto.. I’m looking forward to stuffing myself full of francesinha, partying in the baixa, surfing at Matosinhos beach, and meeting all the fabulous friends I made there on my last trip ;)

    THANKS hosting this comp.

Portugal has it all, old world sights, yummy food and the friendly people. But I only know that second hand from those lucky friends who have traveled there. I soooo want to experience the real thing!

  7. Mrs.O., this is really good give away prize! I am pleasantly surprised that one lucky will win such a good chance to this country “maravilhosa”. I would be extremely happy to be that lucky one, because I’m learning portuguese in my country (I’m from Latvia and it wasn’t easy to find portuguese courses here) and I would like to practise my portuguese with locals and enjoy the culture. One year ago I lives in Lisbon during my Erasmus exchange semester and I want to come back. When I’m talking about Portugal, the first things that comes into my mind are scent of ocean and salt in my mouth after I didn’t manage to catch the wave, tasty bacalhau assado in small restaurant where are lot of people, who became quitewhen Fado starts, and beautiful sunsets – they are incredible… mmm, I just felt I was in Portugal for a minute… I want to expierence that again and since I lived in Lisbon I really want to visit and discover other exciting places in Portugal.

  8. Russell Payan /

I grew up with Portuguese people. I love the food and I love the culture. It would be amazing to see where my Newark neighbors came from!

  9. Elisabeth /

When I think of Portugal, I think of awesome beaches, yummy food, and a culture that I would like to learn more about. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win! :)

p.s. I subscribed to you and also shared this giveaway.

  10. Filomena /

Portugal is my country but still a mistery. theres so many beautiful places to go and so litle time to enjoy all the wonders of this country.
When I think of Portugal what cames in to my mind is the smell and the colours that paint my country, and also the warm and bright sun that envolve us like a warm hug.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Nothing like travelling around one’s country. Good luck!

  11. I went to Portugal for the first time last year (Sagres, Lisbon and Porto) at almost 40 years old it was time !!! It was my travel “coup de coeur” of the year and NOW it is time to go back :) )

  12. Eliza W /

I’ve wanted to visit Portugal since I worked with somebody who goes there on holiday every year. He had such fantastic photos on his desk and I would look at them every day and think ‘I want to go to Portugal!’ Plus he had such wonderful stories of the country and the friendliness of the people. I’ve never been able to go before due to family commitments, money and work but would really love to go!

  13. I travel to Portugal quite often. Last Autumm I visited Serra da Estela. In Portugal yo get the perfect combination of great landscape, good food, lots of things to do and visit and charming people.

What comes to mind is relaxing days.

  14. I’d like to visit Portugal (again) for one reason – the people. Challenged and pushed to the limits by the current financial crisis, the portuguese remain resilient and in love with their land. From the sun-kissed algarve and alentenjo to the beating heart of lisbon, this beautiful face of europe is portuguese, and a testament to the art and life of the portuguese people. I should know, born into a family of immigrants in the US, our story has never been one of mere survival, but always one of beauty. This is my reason for entering this contest, to witness the beauty of the people and their home, against great odds – and to enjoy life with them for those 10 days, with an album of photos to document an inspiring and determined quality of life.

  15. I would love this trip because I would love to see everything that you speak of in your blog. You speak so highly of your “home” that I would like to find out about it for myself.

Also this would be a great first trip for me and my wife after baby Brooklyn was born.

  16. Super Prize Ana!

    Why Portgual and what ?
An amazing country filled with culture, history, hidden gems and friendly people. This mixed with a cuisine to die for, wines to tempt me and a sunset to dream of. Having visited Portgual as a kid, I remember visiting the Ports with the smell of fresh fish being grilled on the side, the sandy beaches and the pastries – how could I forget?!

I really want to visit as an adult to uncover more amazing gems, enjoy the hospitality of Starwood & come back a little darker ;-) …and now as an adult – what about the white Port!?

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

I love the come back a bit darker ;) and white port, oh yes!

  17. Sheila Sloan /

What a wonderful prize. I am going to Portugal tomorrow.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Oh lucky you! I am going the day after tomorrow :)

  18. Ed Dalton /

My sweetheart is from Coimbra and we would love to go and visit her Mother. Not to mention play a little golf.

  19. A2. When I think of Portugal my first thought is all about bionic size tomatoes, beautiful oranges and smelly fish heads, then the second thought is sun & sand and laughter filled days and nights overflowing with warm local hospitality and puss in boots wine. The only time I’ve been to visit Portugal was in a convoy of 3 “Deux Chevaux” citroen cars packed with French university students & me the pom. Over the course of 5 weeks we travelled from Poitiers all the way down through Spain and Portugal to the Algarve and we camped our way around Portugal mostly on beaches (in small tents). We met lovely people wherever we went and ate tomato salads followed by orange flavoured lollies & ice creams as daily rations. Sometimes locals took us to a nice restaurant and that’s where I got stuck with a fish head (with eyes) swimming in briny soup for lunch.
A1 Re-experiencing Portugal more than 20 years later (and from a very different perspective thanks to Mrs O) would be inspirational for sure and I would share the incredible experiences afterwards for 20 years to come – If Mrs O can’t be my partner in crime, then I would invite my darling mum who lives half way around the world from me and would enjoy this fab holiday
    Thanks Mrs O!

The reason why I want to go to Portugal, despite the fact that I am a true “alfacinha” is that I believe that I don’t know my own country that well. This is a very sad thing to say when you live in one of the most beautiful counties in the World. I would love the chance to experience my own country from North to South. The food, the wine, the smells, the breathtaking views… To get to know my own people so I can know myself. And of course, last but not least, to share this experience with my loving girlfriend that for 8 years has been trying to get me out of Lisbon, showing me that there is more to see than just the capital, and I feel that I haven’t been able to pay her until today. This would still not be enough, but it would certainly help.
So I think that I’ve just said what comes in mind when I think about Portugal; good people, good food, good wine, great quality of life – despite the fact that we are always complaining about everything – my dearest love (whom I should thank for pointing me out this great blog) and of course, all of the readers that will get to share this experience through me, if I win, of course. =)

A great thank you note to Ms.O for putting out this unbelievable contest and sorry for my bad english.

  21. I would love to return to Portugal because it is where I was proposed to – on Guincho beach near Lisbon. We were staying in a really quirky hotel on the cliff top and drank the local wine to celebrate. So when I think of Portugal I think of romance, surfing and happy times.

  22. Why wouldn’t you want to visit Portugal? From the North to the south the counrty offers an incredibly rich travel experience. Often forgotton infavour of bigger, brasher neighbours, Portugal is charming, unpretentious and hospitable. Knowing the Algarve well, an opportunity to explore more of Portugal would be fantastic!

  23. Ray Fielding /

What a fantastic prize. I have been to Portugal a few times and love the place and people. This would provide the opportunity to travel across the country and see more of what Portugal has to offer.

Portugal to me means escape and adventure.

    @raypast

  24. I’ve not yet had the joy of visiting Portugal but I would love to see this land of sun, sea and relaxation.

  25. Faye Lester /

I would love to go to Portugal as I have never been. I love going abroad but haven’t managed a holiday for several year. Not had the greatest time the past few years, buy hey I’m still here!! A break away with my mom would be fantastic.

When I think of Portugal I think of good foods, vibrant colour, loud music, and lots of laughter.

Something I could do with at the moment as my life is pretty dull :-(

  26. Although i have never visited Portugal myself, friends who have visited there have always said what a beautiful country it is and I’d love to find that out for myself; the food is amazing and the people, who more often than not make a holiday special, are so friendly and welcoming.

  27. I´m from Portugal and i love my country you have everything there seasights, good beachs, seafood, countrysights, great gastronomy, pleasant people…Great place to live and spend happy holidays!

  28. Portugal is a paradise, in terms of diversity and hospitality. At very first sight, Portugal reminds me good food, wonderful weather, great hospitality. As so, travelling in Portugal is very temptating, in terms of relaxing and discovering new places.

  29. Teresa Barnard /

I would like to visit Portugal because it has been a long time since I visited and although we loved Portugal we had a bad experience with our hotel so it would be lovely to go back and enjoy in better surroundings.

  30. Portugal, a tiny bit of paradise on Earth. When I think of Portugal, I think of sun, beaches, and good night life. But that’s not all that is. There we can ski in the winter, watch the flower blossom in the spring, and see the yellow and red mountain colors in the autumn. In between, we can enjoy the most breathtaking sunsets in Algarve during the summer. For all that, in a land that “discovered” the new world, with lots of history, rich in histories and past.

  31. Why do I want to go to Portugal? Well, I have never been! That’s why I want to go! And I have heard, that the weather is great, the food is incredible and Portuguese people are lovely. When I think of Portugal, I envision Sun and Sea.

  32. Isabel Branco /

Portugal is a many-facetted, creative destination, a place full of options to experience, a friendly spot where you will always wish to return to.
Portugal combines culture and centuries of history with a unique gastronomy. It allies sun with pleasure or business, it motivates relaxation and well-being with fun and joy!
Portugal is sun, wine, food, landscape, creativity and friendliness!

  33. Fran Light /

I’d like to go to Portugal because I have some old school chums living there that I haven’t seen for over 25 years, and a catch up is long overdue! When I think of Portugal, I think of grand old architecture and sunshine!

  34. Carla Dias /

I’m already in Portugal, is the country where I live and love! My country is full of surprises, each city has its charm and the people are wonderful. When I think of Portugal, I remember lovely places from north to south, including islands, Guimarães (where I live) full of history, Sintra with its romanticism, the wonderful beaches of the Alentejo, the cuisine of the Minho, the sweets, all enchants me. It is a country with immense but little known places and I know only a little, with this award would know better.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

It is great to travel around one’s country! good luck, Carla!

  35. My husband and I married young, had children young and watched the last baby fly the nest this yeari. After 28 years, 14 household moves, innumerable military deployments and separations, we are dedicating this year as our “Honeymoon.” We never had one, never had the money and hadn’t had a night away without children in 28 years. We’re making up for lost time. What better way to spend it than in Portugal…the food, the port cellars, the landscape, the architecture and laid-back vibe. And the sun. Yes, the glorious, glorious sun.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

What a fab reason. Many congratulations whatever happens, Meg!

  36. i still remember of getting a stamp of portugal with the picture of a man sharping a knife for his bread, from that day onwards i was curious to know about how is life in portugal, ever since then i have read and watched about portugal,me being a winner here will be a great oppurtunity to know what is the real picture now from those days.It will be a answer to my all questions i guess.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Oh, I have never seen a stamp like that! Intriguing! Good luck!

  37. Alex Teixeira /

I’m glad to say I was born in the most beautiful city in the world. How I miss my lovely Porto!! Can’t wait for the summer and enjoy the beach, the sun and the AMAZING food.

  40. I fell in love with Portugal last year and have been yearning to get back to explore it further. I loved lots of things but it was the people I loved most. The laid back easygoing spirit of kindness I found there won’t ever be forgotten.

  41. Joanne Mcgawley /

The wonderfully friendly and open people make Portugal a really special place to be. Long lazy days by beautiful beaches, to dining al fresco in the city amongst fabulous architecture and culture. So why do i want to go? Well…..who wouldn`t want a slice of paradise.

  42. Great weather.

  43. Rebecca Thomas /

The fishing in Portugal is amazing, personally I just like to watch the different types of fish swimming around (does that make me a little strange?)and that’s what comes to mind when I think of Portugal. I’d love 10 days in Portugal to explore some of the countryside trails and relax in true luxury by the poolside :) x

  44. It’s really cold in Switzerland now and I’d like to escape to Portugal. I was never there and look forward to explore this nice country.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

You are close! You must go – I went to Switzerland earlier this year and loved the contrast!

  45. I want to go because I’ve travelled to Portugal every year for the past four years. The travesty is that it’s almost March and I haven’t made it back yet! I think the sunshine is calling me back again now…

  46. Phil Morris /

I almost landed in Portugal in the early eighties. I was on a flight from Malage to Manchester, calling at Faro to pick up some stranded passengers. As the plane was about ten foot (three meters) above the landing strip a huge cloud of fog blew in front of us. The pilot pulled the air craft up into the sky and said over the intercom, “we wont be trying that again”. We set course for Manchester with everyone remaing silent for some time.

Since that time I have always wanted to return to Portugal and complete what feels like unfinished business. I want to see the white beaches of the south, the nature trails in the ravines, the mountains in the centre and the green landscape in the north; not to mention the food and the wine. As I get older and reflect on my mortality I have come to realise it is time to start fullfilling my dreams while there is still time, aircraft permitting!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

That is some story, Phil! I like the unfinished business bit!

  47. Karen Bartel /

To see, hear, taste and experience all that Portugal has to offer. I love to travel to new places and since I’ve only been to Europe once (Paris, last Fall), I am more than eager to see more. To visit the sites that have existed for centuries, to see and smell the ocean, and to sample the cuisine that is Portugal, would be a dream come true. What comes to mind is adventure, history, beauty all with a Mediterrean twist.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

I hope you can make it to Europe again, Karen!

  48. Danielle /

I want to go to Portugal because I am now studying Portuguese (taking classes and using Rosetta Stone software). It would be wonderful to put it to good use!

  49. Why do I want to go to Portugal?
    - I recently relocated my family to The Netherlands, from the United States. One the main reasons for this move was to give my two children the opportunity to experience other cultures in the world. Portugal is on the top of our list for places to visit. Many people we work say such wonderful things about Portugal and we want to experience what they speak of.
What comes to mind when you think of it?
    - Culture, history, and me with may family enjoying all that it has to offer.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

That’s great, Heath! Hope you are enjoying Europe!

      • Thank you Mrs. O! Hope you enjoyed your recent visit to Amsterdam. We love it here!

        • @mrsoaroundworld /

I did indeed, so different from my last visit. Can’t leave another 8 years until I am back!

  50. Todd Cardwell /

Portugal has been calling me for several years. I have Portuguese and Portuguese-decended people in my lifel. I have recently fallen in love with Portuguese food, even trying my hand at making francesinha even though I haven’t ever tasted one. When I think of Portugal, besides the food, is the wonderful Portuguese people I know, and seeing pictures recently, the beauty of it all that I never knew about. I know I will instantly fall in love with Portugal once I step off the airplane and will want to share my love of it with others; I’ve never had a stronger desire to go anywhere else. I will make it there on my next trip over the Atlantic, but winning this will speed up that timeframe.

  51. Although I left the UK to live in Portugal 3 years ago there is so much exploring still to do, but with 2 weddings to fund next year (both our daughters have decided to marry in the same year) and my 60th and our 40th Wedding Anniversary all falling next year I think it will be a long time before we can explore and even then we would not be able to do it at this level of luxury. When I think of Portugal I think of…home sweet home.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Oh my! you seem to need to get away from it all!

  52. We want to take a trip to Portugal because we have never been there, but have heard SO much about it from everyone!! When I think of Portugal, I think of the food and the culture that everyone raves about – can’t wait to see it!

  53. Tad Shay /

Sadly, I have NEVER been to Portugal in all my years of worldly travel. Espana too many times to count. Brazil I have even been there too! So close but yet so far away, it is about time i go see PORTUGAL. BUT, the real reason I would be blessed to win is that it would provide a real opportunity to have my stepdaughter visit Europe for first time and she could experience PORTUGAL history, culture, food and the place firsthand. She is of Portuguese decent, papa is from Azores, and she learned all about her paternal heritage, but alas only in America. She speaks and understands as well.

And if I won the trip, she would come, as she is frugal and as yet to take her stepdad up on any offers to visit/fly to London and see me and her mom. We are sending her to culinary school so she is prudent in her $$ choices, so sadly she doesn’t visit us as of yet.

So yes I have many reasons to go to Portugal!!!!! Good luck everyone and thanks Mrs O for the Opportunity. XxTad

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

My pleasure and I didn’t know that! :) Good luck!

  54. Michaela Gwilliam /

I would LOVE to win this prize! I had the pleasure of working for a tour operator in various resorts in the Algarve for 3 summers but never had the opportunity to visit other areas of Portugal. Two years ago, my boyfriend and I organised a holiday, combining the Algarve, Porto and Lisbon but due to our flights being cancelled from Lisbon back to the UK, we stayed in the Algarve for the duration of our holiday.

I want to explore and learn more about the country I fell in love with all those years ago and each time I return, I feel like I’m home! Especially with a glass of vinho verde for me and a glass of Dao for my boyfriend x

  55. I’d love to go to Portugal cause it reminds me of a really laid-back and natural country that doesn’t need to show off to prove it’s great value – and I like this kind of feeling:) I have been in Porto for only 1,5 day (yet managed to eat a dinner of 4 dishes at once) so I’m definitely hungry for more:)

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Thinking about it makes me hungry too! Good luck!

  56. Lady Oh,
    1) I want to go to Portugal and and experience the people, culture and especially the food! I hope to have this be the anchor leg of an extended trip through Europe and visit a continent I have never seen.
    2) I think that seeing the magnificent historical architecture of Portugal, would be a dream come true!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Maybe your number will come up! Good luck, Mike!

My one visit to Lisbon left me wanting for more. more fabulous sun, more glorious food, more mournful fado and unique Manuelin architecture. I want to go back for more!

  60. Suzana Cabrita /

My birth country, and have been in Canada since I was 3 months. I have only been back once to see my grandparents when I was 12.
I look at travel sites etc, and fall more and more in love with beautiful country, wishing to be able to ever return and experience it as an adult.

  61. The #1 thing I think of when I hear Portugal? Saudade.

I spent 10 months there when I was 18 as an exchange student, in Montijo and Alcobaça. Leaving was among the hardest things I’ve ever done. The second my feet were on Portuguese soil (or asphalt at the airport), I was already dreading leaving. My time there was not easy. I ended up living with three different families in two cities, when I’d only anticipated one family and one city, but leaving that country was never an option. I had amazing friends, and my third host family truly is my family.

On June 20, it will have been five years since the day I left. That’s five years too many for me to be away from the country I love so much, from the people I know and love, and the people I’d love to get to know, but during those five years, I’ve become a mother, which complicates my travel plans considerably. Although my Portuguese isn’t perfect, it’s good enough that I’ve decided to speak exclusively Portuguese to my son. I actually have nightmares about leaving Portugal without buying books for him. É uma loucura, sim.

Realistically, I need a trip like this to make me experience other parts of Portugal. After I changed cities, every time I got a chance to travel, it was always back to Montijo. There’s so much more I want to see, but I wouldn’t be able to tear myself away from my friends and “family” in those two cities of my own volition.

I relish the thought of once again getting lost when traveling by bus, or on foot, or on the Metro or train. I’ve never felt more myself than when I was exploring and I had to “desenrascar-me”. I thought of that word a lot, and “aproveitar”.

Dói-me a alma, estar longe de Portugal durante este tempo todo. Estou (até sou) apaixonada, doída, por aquele país.

I’ve been there before, but I was never finished. Not a day goes by, no exaggeration, that I don’t think of Portugal. At this point, it’s a matter of mental health :D

  62. I would love to visit Portugal with my boyfriend. I already had thought about a lovely holiday in Portugal in Algarve area for February but he couldn’t be available due to his stressful job in a very big company. What I love to Portugal is the romantic feeling you can have even when you just google about it, so I would love to feel it in real right there. I think Portugal is the best destination for two lovers because you can just walk on the beach or have a very romantic dinner in a good restaurant. I googled the hotels, the restaurants and all what i found were gorgeous resorts and high class restaurants. Portugal is amazing by its weather, food, people, wine and the amazing ocean. Even if I wont win this amazing trip I will continue to google for another date for March and we will have the most romantic time of our relationship in Portugal after 2 months when we haven’t been together. Good luck everybody!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Thank you Alex :) and you should definitely go when you can!

  63. What’s not to love about Portugal? At this time of the year, as I sit at my desk, hunkered down and trying to stay warm while the snow falls and the wind howls, all I can think about is lazing poolside at one of Starwood’s amazing properties in Portugal. And, don’t get me started with the fine food, friendly people, incredible architecture of historic buildings, beautiful countryside with olive groves… Maybe I just need to start sipping some port – 20-year Offley Tawny would be a good friend right about now!

A friend just returned from Lisbon and her stories of the food and the people have made me move Lisbon and Portugal up on my places to go list. When I think of Portugal, I imagine warmth of weather and people, new foods, new wines to discover, history and architecture, and allies to wander to discover out of the way places.

  65. Portugal means family, friends, laughter, long summer nights sitting outside and drinking beer, history and museums, costa alentejana, summer festivals and road trips along the Algarve, camping and repelling the annoying mosquitoes, alentejo alentejo alentejo and my grandmother’s small village in a lost valley, Sesimbra and tortas de Azeitao, Bairro Alto, Bica, Alfama, Lisboa and its amazing light,… this is what I’ve been missing since I moved to Brussels two years ago. I try to go back as much as possible and I always return to the same places, places where I have been very happy. In 34 years I’ve gone north only three times, now that I’m away I wish I had gone more often. Visit Douro, walk around Porto, have some wine and francesinha… This is what I’m missing, this is why I’m trying my luck. Thanks for the opportunity, Ana.

  66. Portugal always makes me think of ONE thing – cork! That’s the one fact I remember learning about Portugal in school, is that they are the largest producer of cork in the world.

Speaking of cork, that’s one reason I’d love to win this trip. Cork comes in WINE, and those gorgeous Starwood hotels look like amazing places to take my wife and have a romantic, relaxing vacation with some great wine. I don;t know a lot about Portugal but I would love to visit and learn more.

Those could have been magic words!! Good luck, Paul!

  67. - my friend’s daughter has been there for some years now, fixing up a tumbled-down house by a river…having seen photos of the surrounding area and the build, I’d love to be able to visit & stroll through the pathways to the hills with the stunning view. For the time-being I have the incredible scent of the local-pressed olive oil, so….I’m half-way there in spirit..!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

we just need to get you there! good luck, tilly!

  68. I dream about the sunny weather, the great food, the unique light that makes the city so special, the hospitality of portuguese people, the great places to visit, full of history and magic…the cultural events, the traditional music, the shopping, the aquatic sports., the poetry…..Everything this charming city has to offer to its lucky visitors!*

  69. THE FOOD! The Portugese make absolutely amazing food. I’m quite familiar with it state-side but would love the opportunity to try it right then, right there.

  70. Although for the Spanish people, Portugal is so close and easy to travel around, I think it is unforgiveable that we do not know this beautiful country more. Sometimes you just leave the easy destinies for “another time”. I used to go quite often to Portugal, once a year from my summers in Andalusia, Spain, and to Lisbon since my parents took me there when I was 17 and I just fall in love with this romantic city. I have really good memories of it. Unfortunately I haven´t been able to visit lately and, although my 10th wedding anniversary last year was meant to be celebrated there, we needed to postpone it due to agenda´s conflicts, budget´s issues, …So I just need to come back to Portugal, explore new places and create new memories!
What come to my mind when thinking of Portugal? Amazing and honest people, bright colours, deep blue ocean, wonderful beaches, golf courts, beautiful beaches, surf, good food and wine, shopping, and good English pronunciation!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Ohhh Angela, flattery will get you everywhere! Gracias and good luck!

  71. Portugal… a country not many can say have visited. It’s a country that’s full of mystery.. At least to me.. When I think about Portugal, I think about warmth. I want to lay by the seaside in Porto and later in the evening have a glass of Porto wine; stay at the tallest building in Lisbon; use the 50% discount for spa… But the main reason I want to go to Portugal, is because travelling is my passion!

  72. It’s about time for a trip over the pond to Portugal. What comes to mind? Relaxing on Praia da Falésia Beach between the waves and the cliff backdrop.

  73. Why Portugal? It’s lovely, laid back, and unpretentious. We honeymooned in Porto and would love to return.

  74. Portugal has amazing geography, I’d love to to visit and take some amazing photos with my new Canon T3i

  75. Wow, what a prize Ana!

The first thing that comes to my mind about Portugal is culture! I imagine that it is everywhere—in the art, the food, the music, the people, the views and colors. I have only ventured to Spain missing a completely different country.

I close my eyes and can imagine my husband and I sipping on some sweet cocktails on the beach then eating the best Portugal has to offer. I have heard amazing things about the art scene in Lisbon, so would love to check that out too!

From playing fantastic golf courses with family and friends in my younger days to some wonderful family holidays at Vila Sol. I would love to visit again and experience some of the fantastic hotels you have highlighted, fingers crossed.

I have a deeper relation to Portugal through my father who went
there as a student 40 years ago and has been fascinated by the country every since. We have traveled a few times together since then and have a few favorite spots. My father has been going through a lot of stress lately, so if I win, I’ll give the travel to him. He’s a keen blogger and good photographer, so everybody would benefit from it :)

  86. There is one particular reason why I would like to visit Portugal.
    LIGHTHOUSES!
I have neer been to Portugal before but my imagination is telling me that this is an endless ocean shore, with cliffs, rocks and wild waves. I can imagine the noise made by the huge waves and strong wind and the smell of the ocean.
This must be the perfect place to be!

  87. We have spent the last 10 years sailing around the Med. We have visited some fantastic places but we started off in France and turned left. We never went right and have never made it to Portugal, even though that is our final destination. We have read a lot, met a lot of intrepid travellers and even have friends that owned a villa there but for a multitude of reasons we have not made it ourselves. Portugal is the last point in the Med on our bucket list and on our blog. I am fed up with surfing the net – it is time to get to Portugal and surf the real thing….amazing wave breaks on some of the beaches. A whole country to explore – would be wonderful.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

I have never been to Portugal so I would love to go and have the opportunity to explore a different culture, taking in the beauty of the island and enjoying the wonderful food, the rich history. What comes to mind when I think of Portugal–I can only imagine it would be like living a dream come true–to be soaking in the warm sunshine on a beautiful beach and enjoying the Portugese hospitality. What an opportunity!

What comes to mind is family… My Dad’s grandparents were from Portugal and immigrated to the US. I would love to see this part of the world that I have roots in, but to look at me you’d never know! :) (Apparently I inherited the Irish/English genes from my mom!) Also… culture, history and WINE! :) I am a teacher and the culture/history part is the most interesting to me. I love to share my travels with my students and hopefully it will inspire them to travel one day as well!

  93. Random thoughts: Azulejos, pasteis de nata, tramway No.28, Alvaro Siza, Alfama, the hill, the stairs, some grandpa sitting on chair in the street, neighbors takling by the windows to the other side of the street, bacalhau, pastisserias, suspended time, the sea, the sky, Pessoa…

I would love to be given a chance and eat my way through all of Portugal’s great culinary cuisines! An exploration of all of Portugal’s amazing food.

  97. I had the chance to visit Lisbon thanks to a friend of mine: her wedding a great and special occasion. I enjoyed so much that time; I really appreciated the place and I would like to visit Portugal all around, because I’m sure it will give great emotions.

Wow, amazing prize!! I was meant to fly out to Portugal for a couple of days two summers ago, however there was a spill on the motorway and I was stuck in traffic for four hours and completely missed the flight :( So the chance to go there again would be amazing (promise i won’t miss the flight!) as I think it looks like a beautiful country and I’ve heard the food is to die for! 109. Why do I want to go to Portugal? Well, me and my fiancée are getting married, and as a pair of impoverished musicians we are struggling to find the post-wedding funds for a honeymoon. This would just be fantastic. I’ve also never been to Portugal, and I know that we would relish the rich cultural and historical heritage that is so bountiful there.

What comes to mind when I think of Portugal? Well, the weather for starters. I really beginning to feel I might have a vitamin D deficiency here in Glasgow! It’s been such a long time since I’ve been anywhere sunny. I also, for some reason, think about the first real global empire, what with having spread the country’s influence to Macau, Brazil and East Timor, to name a few. Furthermore, I could go on about fabulous Roman ruins (eg the Temple of Evora), the milestone that is the Lisbon Treaty, those brilliant custard tarts, football, Fatima, port (white port is really underrated in the UK) and the Fandango. Too many to list on this forum really! Maybe if I don’t win this I should book a holiday anyway…!

  125. The senses, I want to be caressed by the sea breeze, touched by the renowned hospitality of the locals, have my senses taken over by culinary delights taken fresh from the sea, see, smell and taste the array of dishes that conjure up forgotten times, when things were simpler and life was good. But most of all, I want to be kissed by the Iberian sun during the day and if I am lucky, share a stolen one later with a dusky damsel under the moonlight.

I would love to go to Portugal (again) myself, but I especially would like to win this prize for my boyfriend. He’s a photographer who has never been to the country but he’s always been fascinated with Portugal and he’s dying to see it. From everything he’s read, he told me so much about Lisbon and Porto that I decided to visit for a week in 2012, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to get away from work so I went alone. It would be marvelous to see even more of the country in the places you recommend.

When I think of Portugal I still think of the amazingly friendly people, the beautiful blue coastline and its long maritime tradition, and the way the light falls so splendidly over the streets of Porto at sunset. Did I mention grilled sardines? Those too, and of course the port wine, and the Fado. I could go on, but I’d rather submit and hope for the best!

Hi Esther, thanks for popping over. So pleased you liked Portugal on your first visit! This would just be the icing on the cake! Good luck!

  150. What a fabulous contest! I want to go to Portugal because I have heard amazing things about its landscape, food and beaches and I want to experience them firsthand. It seems to me like Portugal is a place where you can escape the stresses of everyday life and enjoy its old-world charm. When I think of Portugal, I think of sunny weather, fresh seafood, beautiful cathedrals and fado!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Oh the fresh seafood – you will never forget it! Good luck, Kaitie!!

  151. You have certainly supersized that contest! And I adore Starwood properties. Portugal caught my interest many years ago, while watching a PBS show about Sintra. Having never been to Portugal, I would like to go with my sister, to celebrate her big birthday. A place with several World Heritage Sites must be amazing!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

It is, and full of good hotels as you can see! And the wine isn’t bad either, Anne! Good luck!

  154. Amazing prize! I’m desperate to visit Portugal because I just feel like I should have been there by now, I’ve talked about it for so long. I will make it this year either way as I’ve got my three night trip to Lisbon planned for April, but I know that won’t do justice to Portugal as a whole! When I think of Portugal, it brings to mind the sort of food and wine I expect will bring my taste buds to life! I also imagine rich history, great architecture and beautiful landscapes to explore. Ok, the more I think about it, the more I just cannot understand why I have never been before! I must be mad!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

It is a special place indeed! Thanks for taking part and good luck!

  156. For 3 lucky weeks in June, 2012, I fell under the spell of Portugal. I was visiting friends who retired to the Algarve, where I spent all but one day (which was spent in Lisbon). It was all so very intoxicating (especially the ginja bars in Lisbon!). I want to share Portugal with my husband, who was unable to join me on my adventure. I’d love nothing more than to return, and not only share my love of such a beautiful country, but explore places I haven’t been, and to spend more time in the places in which I have. When I think of Portugal, I think of fragrant orange and lemon groves; of the fascinating cork trees; of the steep, cobblestone hills and trolley cars of Lisbon; of the gorgeous beaches that abound; of the wonderful food that captures not only the beauty of the countryside, but the beauty of its lovely people. Portugal is unforgettable, and I can’t wait to return!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

  157. I would like to visit wineries which make Port and Madiera

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Port, absolutely :) for Madeira, we need to extend your trip so you can visit this pretty island! Best of luck, Robert!

  158. What an amazing give away! Just what I needed, a little digital detox. When I think about Portugal, it equals the good life, sunny weather and amazing food. No stress, enjoying fresh air, luxury hotels and finally start writing the book I’m trying to write for years now. Portugal is known to be a great inspiration for writers and lots of succesful Dutch writers have a second homebase out there. Should work for me as well! :)

It’s been almost 15 years since I’ve been to Europe (jobs, moving, school and kids have all kept us away) but Portugal would be a fabulous place to help us find our way to the continent again!

  160. I was going to say “For Food! For Drink!” until I saw these beautiful photos. Now I want to go for the oceanside views. I grew up on the Atlantic ocean in Nova Scotia and I miss the water more than anything else. There’s few problems that can’t be solved by a long walk near the waves.

I’m from Greece, I face everyday the crisis and this trip would be the most fabulous Honeymoon for me and my husband-to-be! I’ve never visited Portugal and I’m keen on exploring this Mediterranean beauty!

  162. I would love to visit Portugal! I had a good friend from there and have had some amazing meals with her wonderful family. Her grandmother made this incredible octopus dish and I couldn’t get enough of those small egg custard sweets. I’m also impressed with the wines being produced in Portugal now. It’s definitely a hidden treasure!

Since I always travel for history, I’d love to see the historic centers of Lisbon and Porto, as well as the lovely cities and traditional arts of the Algarve coast.

  167. Portugal to me is great food, amazing wines, fantastic landscapes and lovely people. I can’t get enough of Portugal and I hope I win this competition to come back!

  168. What a great giveaway!

I’ve never been to Portugal and for a while, it never really called to me. Then, one day late last December, I woke up thinking that I had to get to Portugal in 2013. I don’t know why. I’ll be honest and admit that I don’t really know much about the country, but I woke up with an urge to go there.

I was thinking of spending a month there in late September. Good time to visit?

When I think of Portugal, I think of my family friends who invite me to their big Portuguese weddings and christenings and feed me until I think I can never eat another shrimp again. I also, due to my love of football, think of Deco and Figo. Mmmm. Fiiiiiiggggooooooooo <3 <3 <3 Mmmmm.

*cough* I like him for his footballing skills. Really ;)

I don’t know what it is that has made me dream of it, but there’s something exotic about the country. It’s almost as if it is not part of Europe, but some greater, more exotic location. At least, that’s how I imagine it. Plus, reading your posts, have made my desire to visit even greater! What a great contest; I really hope I win!

  171. Yay – I just love a good contest and this one sounds awesome!

Let’s see, why do I want to go to Portugal? Well, I’ve been to Lisbon and explored Porto and the northern part of the country. I have to say that my prior trips to Portugal have left me somewhat addicted to all things Portuguese – the people, the food, the beautiful rhythm of the language, etc. And green wine!

Basically I would love to explore more of the country, especially to the south.

“Why do you want to go to Portugal?
Why not? Portugal has been on my must see list since I started learning of Vasco Da Gama and Bartolomeu Diaz in History classes back in Jamaica. I was fascinated by what I was learning about this “small” country, as Portugal was often described, spreading its mark around the World.

What comes to mind when you think of it?”
Lisbon, Olive skinned men with handsome faces, History, culture!!!

Can’t wait to visit, choose my name, please, randomly, of course!!!

i want to visit all these wonderful places because in 2005 we got the opportunity to move from a wet bleak scotland and were lucky to be able to go anywhere in the world- where did we choose- PORTUGAL- that alone deserves the loyalty vote!! having said that i live in a very un-portuguese ex-pat community and embarrassingly hardly venture far afield so this would be a chance to spread my wings and truly explore this beautiful country at long last!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

  176. I’ve been to Portugal four times because it’s so close to my base of Seville, Spain. Portugal is a nice change to Spain – beautiful people, fantastic food and a lighter version of the explodes-in-your-face-tourism that Spain has been pushing lately. 178. Actually, I am Portuguese… and I go to Portugal 2-3 times per year. However, being an expatriate, when I do go to Portugal, I always visit the same handful of locations (where family and close friends are). I realised that my children have visited more cities in Italy, or the US, than in my own country. I must correct that situation, and soon!

I want to show my children the variety of landscapes, accents, smells and tastes of this small but beautiful country.

When I think of Portugal I remember blue skies. I love my adopted country, but I miss the clear blue skies of Portugal.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

I know the feeling – and the issue you have with the children… same happened to me and my parents (but the culprit was Spain). Best of luck!

  179. Wow – what an amazing contest Mrs O. And Portugal of all places…I have still yet to visit. I would love to explore the coast, the culture and the food. My father travelled the world on business and spoke often of how he dreamed of some day going to Portugal. While he may never have that chance, I hope to take him there with my photos and stories. I dream of walking the old cobbled streets, experience the Portuguese culture that I have heard so many amazing stories about, and tour the smaller port towns and villages. Of course, as the home of Port, I see a few Port tours while there.
The photos from the hotels involved look amazing! I would love to be sipping cocktails at the Sheraton Algarve, waiting for sunset – it looks absolutely stunning! Not to worry Mrs O – there would be many photographs!

  180. Clare Woodman /

  181. Oh oh oh Mrs O where do I start?

Well for starters I am planning to work incredibly hard this year to really get maiden-voyage.com out there globally, that will inevitably mean I become a little workaholic. If I were to win this incredible trip (and it really is, I mean who would normally offer a 10 night stay in 5 different gorgeous Starwood hotels?)it would force me to relax, take a break, eat nurturing delicious food, chillx with stunning wines and indulge in massage induced sleeeep.

After a trying year behind me, a busy year ahead and wonderful support from so many fabulous people I would delight in being able to share the experience with one of the many special people in my life. :-)

  184. I was in Portugal a long time ago, and found one of my favorite places in the world. It was the old Europe of books and movies and a place you could find something unique no matter where you got lost.

If I were to have a chance to go again, I’d travel from small town to small town on my way north to wine country. As a lover of good port, I’d spend most of my lazy days making friends with locals, eating great seafood, and devising ways to bring back a lot of those sweet bottles of Portuguese heaven.

  185. I live in Portugal and am half Spanish/half Portuguese.
Although I live in Lisbon, I am retired and due to Portugal crisis I have not been able to travel as I did before. It would be good to win and relax for some days, forgetting all the bad political atmosphere around…

  186. I visited Lisbon for the first time this summer during my honeymoon! I swear, its Europe’s best-kept secret…it’s like a sunny, European San Francisco. I loved the trolly cars, the tiled streets that seem to go uphill both ways, and the Ginjinha shops where you can drink your shot on the street! Admittedly, I haven’t seen any other parts of Portugal, and I’d love the opportunity explore more (and to have another Pastéis de Belém while I’m in Lisbon!)

  187. Pat E-Tyng /

Just reading the other comments before mine, I got excited about what Portugal has to offer. I have never been but would love to experience the culture, learn more about the history, and of course, enjoy the local food and drink. The older I get, the more my eyes are open to the beauty this world has to offer. When shopping, my eye is always drawn to pottery that is “Made in Portugal”. This is a chance of a lifetime and I thank you for the opportunity.

  188. I’d like to go to Portugal with my sister. I was there in another lifetime with a former flame for 4 days which wasn’t nearly enough. My sister has never been there and we’ve been discussing it as a possibility for this year.

I remember the cork trees and would like to know a little more about those trees and that industry. Are screwtop wine bottles reducing demand or has the fact that wine production has spread globally making it still a good business so be in?

I also want to check out the cheeses. Some of the best (and most expensive) cheeses I see in the gourmet markets come from Portugal.

And the beaches – water is one of the primary reasons we like to go anywhere! I also love that you have “curated” a great itinerary for the winner. That way we wouldn’t need our own money or brains – perfect!

  195. This is an awesome contest and kudos to you for posting this opportunity and sharing it with everyone! I absolutely have to submit myself as well because I have never ever been to Portugal and it is a dream of mine to go! It seems like a such a magical place worth exploring. Hidden gems like Evora in the Alentejo region or losing yourseld in the Monchique hills among the flowers. And of course embaressing yourself by surfing in Carrapateira. When I think of Portugal, I think untapped, beautiful nature, delicious food and diversity of landscape. Crossing my fingers for this awesome prize! :D

  196. Anna Tuckett /

I’d love to explore the Alentejo region, which is said to be so unspoilt, it reminds visitors what Europe used to be, before we had to establish national parks to protect the most beautiful spots. Experiencing the Festa das Flores is on my Top Ten Travel Dreams list. I’d also love to see Estoril and faux – gothic castles, where, I read somewhere, Polanski’s atmospheric film, Ninth Gate, was filmed. I am also drawn to the scenery (and delicious wine) of the Douro Valley. It’d be enormous fun to go to “the end of the world” – Cabo da Roca. And, quite honestly, as I spent nearly every holiday here in Britain in the last 8 years, it’d be wonderful to venture abroad for a change.

Sin duda :) lovely to see you over here! Are you still based in Lisbon? Suerte!

  212. Portugal has always seemed like a romantic, far away destination. The food, culture, language, art, music, and literature are so lyrical. The folks I’ve met from Portugal are warm and so family friendly. It would be a pleasure to experience this enchanted land in person. Your giveaway would be an ideal introduction! Thanks for the opportunity.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

My pleasure, seems to me you are all set to go! Good luck!

  213. What an amazing prize! I want to win this because Portugal is #1 on my list and has been for a while. I love southern Europe but have never been to Portugal, and my husband is from Brazil with many full-blooded Portuguese relatives, so he is very attracted to its culture.
    Good luck to all!

  214. I was in Lisbon in 2003 with my aunt. I was working hard, finally had a little free cash after college, and we were looking for an easy break. Lisbon was the right price so we went for it. Best decision we ever made! Gorgeous colors, monuments to past leaders, sweeping gardens, and palaces. Oh don’t get me started on how much I love the Pena Palace of Sintra. And the chicken. This may sound strange but our first night in Lisbon we popped into a simple restaurant, ordered a roast chicken, fries and spinach. It was the best chicken I have ever had. My aunt still talks about it. However, I really want to go back to Portugal for the fish. At the time I was not a very adventurous eater. I refused to eat one of the main dishes of the area- fish. What was I thinking?! Now I search out fish whenever we are near the coast. So good, so fresh, and usually the simplest thing you could order, but also the most scrumptious. Divine! Enough of my food ramblings! I would love to take my hubby back. He has never been. And if we have to I guess I can take my 2 little guys as well. They enjoy luxury and exploring new places too.

  216. As an architect, I’ve always wanted to see the spare seafront villages and the austere stone wineries of Portugal. As a bon vivant, I love port wine, seafood, sun drenched beaches and the luxe attitude the country has….. and as an artist, I hear the creative and localized artisan scene is so very vibrant these days! I would Love to explore all the faces of Portugal and see all the combination of passion, talent and beauty it has!

  217. I already live in and love Portugal but even though I travel a lot, it’s never in this kind of luxury so I’d be more than happy to spend 10 nights doing it in style. Portugal is many things to me – it’s home but also still a place to discover and I’m gradually uncovering its history, secrets and special places and customs.

  218. I’ve never been to Portugal. I’ve been to the U.K. many times as well as France multiple times. I’ve been to Italy, but I feel my travels to Europe are lacking in that I haven’t been to Portugal or Spain. I imagine a very beautiful place with nice weather. I think of beautiful, warm coasts. Pleasant people, food with flair, along with a nice after-dinner drink. When I think of Portugal I think of football, and that Port wine. I’d like to get a much deeper understanding of wines produced in Portugal, instead of just the basic Ports I’m able to find in local stores. I once read of an airport agent in the U.S. said of all the international travelers he talks to upon their return to the States, Portugal consistently is one of the main countries everyone says they loved. I want to discover why that is. Portugal isn’t a country Americans think of when considering what European countries to travel to. I had a college Spanish professor who oddly enough was Portuguese. Needless to say the Spanish I learned had a Portuguese slant to it. I’ve been intrigued by the country ever since then. But for whatever reason when I plan European adventures Portugal has yet to make the final cut. I’d like to learn what makes this country so unique. And the best way to do that is to live it.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

I like your thinking Lance! Let’s leave Spain out of the equation for now ;)

I really don’t know much about Portugal, but I would love to go and learn more about it! I love going to a new place and immersing myself into the experiences and culture of the country! • @mrsoaroundworld /

The question is.. do you like good food and wine?

  220. I would love to go to Portugal, I have been there once in Lisbon and Porto and I loved it. My partner has not been there so it would be a good opportunity to rediscover it. And when I think of portugal I think of pastéis de Belém, yummy!!

I would love to take in the cultural experiences of Portugal. I want to mingle among the local people and experience Portugal as they live each day in this beautiful place. The food, history, art, landscape, and everything that encompasses Portugal is why I would love to go.

  222. I’ve never been to Portugal, and sadly have never even been to Europe. It’s high up on my destination list but just have not had a chance to visit yet. I’d love for it to be my first time there and enjoy all that Portugal has to offer, and then turn it into a mini vacation to neighbouring countries! When I think of Portugal, I think of great food, beautiful wines, scenic vistas, and a nice romantic getaway. I always imagine that pictures and movies don’t do these countries justice, and you just have to be there to experience it. Would be a fantastic way to celebrate my 10 yr wedding anniversary with the most wonderful woman in the world.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

  223. I have been dying to visit Portugal since, well, forever. I’ve never been and it looks glorious in photos! When I think of Portugal I think of the fantastic wine and cuisine. The first think that comes to my mind when I think about Portugal is the weather. The sun shining on winter mornings caressing my face during my morning walks in the village of Ericeira. I miss it so much.

  248. Portugal is a land of many discoveries. It’s the little country that “did”! “Portugal expanded western influence and established the first global empire, becoming one of the world’s major economic, political and military powers. In addition, the Portuguese Empire was the longest-lived of the modern European colonial empires, spanning almost 600 years, from the capture of Ceuta in 1415 to the handover of Macau in 1999 and granting of sovereignty to East Timor in 2002. Source of this information from Wikipedia” It is the home of my ancestors, (Azores) and I have been blessed to have been able to go back a couple of times. However to be able to return again and under these superior accomodations as Starwood is supreme, would mean the world to me, as I’ve always been forced to travel under a tight budget. 259. Fraternal twins David and Emily entered the fourth grade classroom shyly. Though a tad taller, he stood a bit behind her. Naturally, the rest of us turned to gawk. Our teacher pulled them to the front of the classroom and introduced them. “They’ve just moved to California from Portugal,” she said. “Do any of you know where Portugal is on the map?” She pulled the looped cord to extend the world map down over the chalkboard, covering our multiplication tables, and waited. No one moved. Suddenly, Emily, the new girl, with her round, olive-skinned cheeks and dark, thick eyebrows, not understanding that the questions was meant for the rest of us, walked forward and pointed to her country. She had to stretch to reach Europe’s west coast. There. Obviously, said her bravely sparkling eyes. In the weeks to come, both she and her brother would be teased mercilessly for having a last name that rhymed with the English word for male genitalia, but she and I became friends anyway. At Emily’s eleventh birthday party, her mother shocked us all by preparing a full suckling pig for a dinner feast. (Most of the guests stuck to the cupcakes.) It’s been almost two decades since I last saw Emily, but as an adult, whenever I hear a reference to Portugal, I think of her. Of shy, lush-lipped David. Of the pig, roasted and gleaming on a tray (which I wish I’d been brave enough to try). Yet, even after moving to Europe (Norway) a couple of years ago, my husband and I haven’t quite made it that far west. A trip like this one would be a phenomenal way to bring this story of my distant, prolonged admiration of Portugal to a climax. Fun!

  267. I dream about visiting Pessoa’s motherland, getting lost in one
of its various towns. Maybe look for Pereira or some other character
of Tabucchi’s novels and have a long conversation by the sea.

I love Portugal wines and sea food, I think that the most beautiful vineyard is around the Port river.

When I hear about portugal nowadays, Porto is the first place that comes to my mind, maybe its because the travel blog conference TBU that took place in september 2012 when a lot of posts were talking about the beauty of this city. would like to go and experience it myself when i be in eurpoe in May

Mrs. O, your posts are always great and inspiring!

    Thanks

  270. I’d love to explore this country that has so much influenced my own, and where part of my family came from.

  271. What amazing prices! Well, I really hope to get lucky this time! And the answer to your question is easy: I´m a 28 years old Brazilian woman that hasn´t been yet to Portugal, the country I heard so much about on my history classes! I am sure I will find the amazing cultural heritage in architecture, food or tradicional parties, specially FOOD! Já posso sentir o gosto dos biscoitos amanteigados derretendo na boca :)

  272. Having travelled extensively in Africa and been brought up in South East Asia, lived in South America and had a fair bit of fun in Europe – I have never been to the amazing Portugal. I’ve been saving it! Recently, the largest wave was surfed (100ft) and I have a real urge to go check out the beaches and waves. An avid traveller and writer, I would love to get to know Portugal, the people, the culture and the language. As you can guess, Portugal makes me think of Surf, Beach, Waves, Awesome food and now 5* Hotels!

I yearn to go to Portugal as every beautiful piece of pottery or linen I have purchased in my lifetime says made In Portugal. Because I lived 50 years on this planet and subscribe to the golden rule…so karmic vibes should enhance my submission. Because I am passionate about world schooling, but since I quit work to teach my kids, I don’t have funds to travel. Because I am worthy of this amazing vacation experience.

Thank you for posting this opportunity. It keeps the dream alive!

Oh thank you, Cathleen! Loved the mentions of pottery and linen – a lot of them do come from Portugal indeed! Best of luck :)

  274. Incredibly, Portugal is just a country so unique in Europe that is NOT to be missed. I missed an opportunity to travel to Europe for a conference and Portugal by a slight margin. I am desirous I will get to visit it, enjoy its warmth and friendly people, get inspired to keep on inspiring others!
