Photos of the Week – Snow and Ice

This is the snow we had, 2h after it started!

This is the snow we had, 2h after it started!

It is Friday again – and oh my, did the organisers of #FriFotos predict the weather today in England! Titled snow and ice – I was thinking skiing and cocktails (not necessarily together), but wasn’t expecting this much snow on my own back garden! Must think of a special cocktail tonight!

But sticking with the theme, I have to share one of my latest purchases – obviously from my recent trip to the USA. I was served a cocktail a year ago in California with a single “ball” of ice, and never quite forgot it.. so when I saw these for sale, I simply couldn’t resist… guess what I will be having when it gets darker today..

Speaking of cocktails, it is interesting how they are finally making their way to Europe. It used to be a USA indulgence, and I am happy to report this is slowly changing. Last night, I had some really nice cocktails at the Sofitel St James in London – aren’t they pretty. I probably need to do a post on the best cocktail bars in London, so I need to get out and do some research… see how nice I am? The things I do for the blog and my dear readers!

Weather permitting, I should heading to Switzerland next week – stop 2 in my very exciting Euro Tour. It will be my first time skiing in Switzerland, so I shall compare and contrast with France. It will also be a special trip as it will be a girly weekend – a bit of skiing, a bit of eating, a bit of sightseeing (we are also heading to Geneva and Zürich), and hopefully, a bit of shopping. Not to mention chocolates, of course!

The mountains are calling Mrs. O!

And finally, I will leave you with what could be the perfect photograph for this Friday’s topic – doesn’t this combine both (snow and ice) to perfection? I can see a bit of both for sure!

Wishing you all a great weekend, wherever you may be!

It is mad! Of course nothing compared to what we will see later this week! The ice cube is seriously fab! Can I have 2 more?

  9. Mrs. O when are you going back to Portugal? We miss you here! We do not have snow here, of course. I only discovered your blog last week and have been reading some articles. Very nice – muito bom as we say here. Good to see a fellow Portuguese being so successful. Boa sorte! Bye bye and sorry for my English

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Mário, olá! Thank you for stopping by and for supporting the blog! I am planning to go back to Portugal at the end of February. I hope!

I really like the cocktails image – I always stay at the Sofitel hotels when I find them. I am French! But did not know they had one in London.. merci!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

It was my first time there and can assure you it is classic Sofitel. I did not see the rooms, but surely they will be nice!

How beautiful! I am in Switzerland and very happy you are coming to my country – is it your first time? Verbier is very chic and I think you will like it. Make sure you have raclette. I live in Geneve and love it. Zurich is also very good. Switzerland will be very happy to have you!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

I have been to Zurich and Geneva – and can’t wait to go back! Has been years since I visited either city properly. Oh and don’t worry, plenty of raclette planned. And need to try the Swiss wine!

  12. I love the Gin with view :-) Happy snowy weekend to you (and more snow is waiting for you in Switzerland ;-) )

Hi! Love the photos – and I like how you interpreted the ice as ice cubes = cocktails! I did not know there was a Sofitel in London. Always associate Sofitel with France – but makes sense of course that they are international.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Sofitel is in many many countries – I had never been to the London property before, really quite nice!

  17. Mary Anne /

Is it really snowing in England? I didn’t know it happened! Love those ice cubes – where can I find them?
I hope I can go skiing this year. Have you skied in Austria? I am thinking France this year!

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Oh it is! Snowed a little bit this Monday but today.. oh yes! The ice cubes are from williams sonoma in the USA. Never skied in Austria – France is always fab! Any favourites?

  18. Those massive ice cubes are super cool. Where did you buy them? Where they expensive?

Have a good time in Switzerland – I used to have to go there every year, but haven’t for years. Look forward to your photos, as always

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Hi John, thank you! I will, looking forward to this trip with the girls. The ice cubes (I love them!!) are from Williams Sonoma. I think they were $10 for the 2 moulds

  19. Mrs O, I loooooooooooooove the pictures! Where did you get those ice cubes? I really would like some. Please tell me!

Love the gin photos – I love them all! Have been a way for a bit and missed your blog updates – always brighten up my week! Where are you off to next?

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Oh that is so sweet, Maria! Just back from Paris and off to Switzerland next week :) where have you been?

The ice cubes are from Williams Sonoma in the USA!
