November Giveaway – Ickle Bockles

When I went to Girona earlier in September, I was determined to travel with hand luggage only. If you know me a little bit, you would probably guess that a occurance like this happens almost *never*. But I tried really hard, and I succeeded. I was very proud of myself. So so proud, that I decided to take a photo to prove it and sent out a little tweet.

My tweet read "Being a good girl and travelling very light today. Hand luggage for 4 days!! Girona, here I come!"
My tweet read “Being a good girl and travelling very light today. Hand luggage for 4 days!! Girona, here I come!”

Immediately after I sent it, I got a tweet back from Ickle Bockles, who asked if I was using their products. I wasn’t but I have to say I was intrigued. When I got back, we kept in touch and I really really liked what this small company, based in the North of the UK, has developed.

Ickle Bockles' range smells delicious and looks the part too

I love the idea of supporting new brands, but what I really liked was how we got talking, finding out how and why this brand was set up and was delighted to try their products, which are really really good.

Cath and her husband Dean, who is a hairdresser and has owned hairdressing salons for the past 25 years, have founded Ickle Bockles.  Over the years, his clients repeatedly requested smaller bottles of salon professional shampoos and conditioners to take on holiday.  Apart from the occasional promotion, the salon shampoos and conditioners were only available in standard size bottles, as we all know!

The range of "bottles"
The range of “bottles”

Subsequently, when the airlines reduced the amount of liquids that could be carried onto plans to 100ml in light of events of 9/11, Dean decided to source some good quality screw top 100ml bottles to sell within his salon. Such was the success of the 100ml bottles that Dean quickly expanded the range to include flip top, lotion pump and spray bottles in 60ml and 125ml sizes, 30ml pots and his ‘Bockle Bank’ kits containing all the bottles you need to take on holiday.

I love the flight friendly kit
I love the flight friendly kit

The range includes airline compliant 30ml pots and 60ml & 100ml bottles with a variety of interchangeable closures so you can pump, spritz, flip or just simply pour.  Each bottle has a waterproof, writeable label so you don’t confuse your shampoo with your moisturiser!

To make carry-on even easier, Ickle Bockles have put together a selection of their airline compliant bottles and pots in a clear vinyl washbag.  Choosing the Flight Friendly Selection ‘Ickle Bockle Bank’ means you need never be caught out at airport security again!

For those who don’t wish to decant, Ickle Bockles provide a range of 100% natural toiletries available in hand-luggage friendly 100ml size bottles.  The shampoos, conditioners and shower gels contain no artificial colours, preservatives, parabens or SLS.  They are fully biodegradeable, not tested on animals and made in the UK.

Ickle Bockles also stock a range of travel accessories including travel pillows, eye masks, travel toothbrush & paste sets, wipes etc all specifically designed to keep you fresh and in good spirits during those long haul flights.

We have all seen variations of this type of products, but nothing that looks so good as this, hence why I decided to have Icckle Bockles sponsor my first giveaway of November.

I bet you want to know what the prizes are… they are fab!

I’m hopeless at travelling light so Ickle Bockles would be perfect for my upcoming long-haul holiday (2 weeks and counting…) And great to support this enterprising little company, born and bred in the North of England (like me!)

So without further ado: A really engrossing novel, nice-smelling hand cream (a good antidote to stale cabin air – Crabtree & Evelyn’s Rosewater Hand Therapy is a favourite), some kind of hat (a woollen beret or a sun hat, depending on the climate of my destination!), a good guide book (I love geekily reading up on places in advance) and a camera.
    Obrigada, Mrs O :)

  15. Yes it is! I love it. At first I was a bit skeptical, which I think is the marketer in me. But, after using it to hydrate my hair, my skin from lips to elbows, especially while flying…I love it. I use Josie Maran’s Argan Oil as she gives back to the local communities as well.

  16. I can’t believe none of us here have posted yet, so I’m posting for the crew so that means I get to keep the goodies if we win. Of course, I guess I could share :)

When traveling, I need to always pack:

    1. Sunscreen!
    2. Facial Cleanser
    3. Washcloth to wash my face as sometimes you don’t have access to washcloths, say in the airport or simply put, I like my soft washcloths.
    4. Cell phone chargers. I’d be lost without access to my smartphones. Yes, plural. Work and pleasure.
    5. Argan Oil. This is a recent find of mine and love it as can use it to hydrate my face, body and hair…all from one little bottle. If I could, I’d sneak in my sunglasses too as that would help hide the fact I didn’t include mascara on the list :)
    Aimee recently posted..Bespoke DesignsMy Profile

  26. OK, so travelling long haul with under 5s generally so my list is somewhat different – baby wipes for those inevitable spills, a change of clothes – ditto, rescue remedy – useful for me and them, a favourite book to read them- again and again and again, and as much patience as I can muster.

    • @mrsoaroundworld /

Haven’t had that experience yet, but can imagine! Thank you, Jules!

    • This could be my own Top 5 List! I find the patience wears thinner, the longer the flight! Thanks for entering our giveaway – good luck!

  27. My travel journal, some nail polish for any little girls I meet, my “Go Girl” luggage tag, Mr. Panda (a small stuffed panda that has seen the world via my family’s travels), and, of course, my iPad!

  28. iphone, charger, earphones, adapter (you can see where this is going, to be disconnected from the web is really stressful pour moi!) oh and a mini bottle of Jo Malone Red Roses perfume – clothes optional :-)

  29. Great post and a nice idea with the product range :-)

My five items would have to be my mobile phone (blog, camera, entertainment in one), comb, toothbrush, comfortable walking shoes and a coat/jacket depending on the season. Give me those and I can be comfortable in most places!

  30. I always, always, always take with me:
1.) A key chain that has a tiny lavender scented plush bunny, a mini-mag light, bottle opener, nail file.
    2.) A blue speckled sarong
    3.) Cocoa butter lotion
4.) My own mix of orange/peach/mango Body Shop shower gel.
5.) A journal with special marker-pens. Makes for super sexy lists and great writing.

    3. Slippers: I don’t like putting my feet on the floor in hotel rooms after watching one too many exposés on television.
    4. My flat pack toiletry kit (see a pic of it here. Saves space while still allowing me to bring everything along that I need. Love it!
    5. Snacks. Not a lot, but enough so if I get stuck at the airport, I have something to nibble on that is healthy and won’t break the bank like apple chips or protein bars.

Hmmm … this one got me really thinking about what I absolutely HAVE to take with me, wherever I’m travelling – here’s my definitive list:

    • An ickle packet of hand-sanitiser wipes to pop in my handbag – you can’t be too careful!
    • An ickle booky-wook, or even better kindle, to beat the departure lounge blues
    • An ickle touché éclat stick – does an amazing job of brightening up my face when travelling!
    • A REALLY ickle pocket (or handbag) size tin of Vaseline – great for lips of course, but also for tidying up wayward eyebrows! My favourite for travelling is the sun protection type, but you can get them in lots of flavours or even with a hint of colour
    • A (not-so-ickle) long cotton scarf – works well in all temperatures and can double as a skirt (sarong-style), cover-up for visiting churches in hot countries and even a pillow!

Sunglasses, for obvious reasons 3. Ear plugs to drown out sounds from the streets or screams of those who don’t carry an LED light on their way to the loo 4. Dental Floss (see earlier comment) 5.
